Jesus Pebbles

Last Christmas, I heard a story that just captivated me. I've thought about it several times since then, because I wanted to do something similar and keep reminding myself to make the time.

The story is about a man in Cornwall, an artist, who mysteriously painted and left little pebbles with the baby Jesus on them all around town, nestled in some "hay".

The full story is here if you want to read it. It's charming. It was just a sweet, fun little reminder to people what Christmas is about, when they were running around hurrying from store to store. It doesn't get any better than that.

When I saw the baby in Oh Baby!, I knew I'd found my baby Jesus. Now shhh.... If I do this this year, you must keep it quiet and pretend you don't know who is doing it!!

I didn't paint mine because I wanted to reinforce the simplicity of the message with the simplicity of the design. So the baby Jesus is in white paint on the front of a river rock, with a white rub-on on the back.

It's not to early to get the Christmas spirit, is it? ;)

  5. It'd be seriously cool if a lot of us would do this in the Austin area! I have to remind my kids every Christmas about the true meaning- it is NOT the worrisome chaos we throw ourselves into trying to find the perfect gift and such.

Really cute- you come up with the neatest stories!

Have no idea what to do with that one! Anybody?

  6. Great idea. Of course being Buddhist, I would think it's a baby announcement and you where due at Christmas.

  7. What a sweet idea! Anything that reminds people of the REAL reason for Christmas is great in my book! And your little baby is adorable...

(And my word is "DINGL" but everything I think of for it isn't acceptable to talk about in public, so I'll just let it go. You can use your imagination.)

  8. Hee-hee DINGL! See the diff. between you and me Jayne is that I WOULD go there in public and then later wonder why I did that!!!!! You are obviously more tactful than I!

I think I'm gonna find me some stones and do this- Lydia! No, it's not too early to think about Christmas- if I start now I will have time to spread the word of the true meaning AND freak out about the commercialism of it all!

    Gee, I am so lucky.

  9. It is never, never to early to think about Christmas. I love your little rock and think about a million of those just might make a difference is a million lives. Oh, forgive me, I always think on a big scale. But the rocks are precious.
