VIDEO: Mini Boards with Hand Carved Wood Stamps

*Compensated affiliate links used where possible at zero cost to you. No posts are ever sponsored or paid.*

For this month's Gel Press video, I did a super fun collection of little artist trading stamps, using Indian carved wood stamps, Splash Inks and the Postage Infinity dies! The little people from A Walk in the Park and More for A Walk in the Park are perfectly sized for these fun little stamps! I used this set, which has some perfect postal items in it, for the words. And I threw in one freaking adorable little bee from this set. These are going to be so fun to give away or abandon! The video for the mini board concept for how I created these is below.

Don't forget to sign up for my online Gel Press workshop in February! (it doesn't matter if that date is a conflict, because it's all online!) If you sign up today you will get two of the supply items mailed to you, but the cutoff for that is today because the mail is so crazy right now!

And here's the video - click HERE if you don't see a player below.

Here are the simple supplies I used.

I was watching crafty videos on YouTube and this video came up about a glass cleaning hack for glass shower doors. I live in a place with REALLY hard water so everything gets coated with a film. I was skeptical, but I bought some of these dishwasher tablets they recommended, removed the little ball, and scrubbed our shower with the blue side. IT IS A MIRACLE. Now if you have serious hard water or serious soap scum it might take two scrubbings, but seriously your glass will sparkle. I bet it would work great on mirrors too or heck even car windows! I had literally tried everything and this is the way the truth and the glass shower life! Just remember to take the little ball out so you're scrubbing with the flat blue part. (How gimmicky is that, anyway? Reminds me of Gushers LOL).

Guess that's what we do in 2020. Give housekeeping tips.

VIDEO: The Plant Clock Concept + Gel Press Hope Ribbon Printing

*Compensated affiliate links used where possible at zero cost to you. No posts are ever sponsored or paid.*

I heard a promo for a plant podcast the other day, and what they said stopped me in my tracks.

I have added a lot to my garden this year and made a lot of changes - it has taken the place of the things that I used to leave my house to do - all the traveling time, vacations, etc. - I've spent nearly all of that time on my plants.

A lot of my friends have too - even people who are very new to gardening. And the observation by this podcast was absolutely fascinating. They said that the reason this is so fascinating right now is because plants mark the passage of time in a visual way. SO TRUE. And in a year where all other temporal markers have been erased - trips, holiday get togethers, birthday parties - plants are proof that time goes on, in its normal linear fashion, despite all of our feelings to the contrary.

It reminded me of a study that was done at my alma mater on the different ways that men and women navigate (with exceptions of course - I am an exception because my dad taught me to navigate via compass basically as a toddler). We had these tunnels under all the buildings at my university because it was in such a frighteningly cold place - and we used these (steam) tunnels to get to classes all winter. The school let us graffiti the heck out of them too, so they were colorful, if a bit creepy - and stiflingly hot.

I was a part of several experiments by our psych department, but missed this one. They cleared out the tunnels and they put men and women in them and gave them certain destinations and then questioned them about how they got there. What they found is that men primarily navigate via orientation - typically compass direction - and women primarily navigate via visual landmarks. How do you navigate? I'm a compass girl all the way - I grew up on a prairie landscape, so that does you zero good in the landmark department - you need to know where the sun is if you're on a flat, somewhat barren vista.

But this comment about visual timekeeping via the garden made me think of that study - because it's very hard to shift from one method to another. And that's what we've had to do with the calendar this year. So, so interesting.

Anyway - I have some cool info for you today. Gel Press has an amazing new plate - an awareness ribbon - that's PERFECTLY sized for cards! So I have a few cards and a video for you - some mixed media prints with this super unique plate. All of my cards feature this stamp set, which benefits breast cancer research. All prints were made with Golden Open acrylics and Ranger alcohol inks

The second one I kept super clean - and in a rainbow style it can be an awareness ribbon for any cause you like. The sentiment echoes that.

On this last card - I loved the distressed look of the print, so I stamped the sentiment, and was about to re-stamp it because it wasn't totally inked and then I thought about it and thought it matched the overall style, so I left it!

The Joy of Shimmery Monoprints + Scooby Doo Magic

*Compensated affiliate links used where possible at zero cost to you. No posts are ever sponsored or paid.*

I actually don't have a card for you today - SHOCK! I have a card in the making - a few beautiful Gel Press prints that will become cards in upcoming posts - but I had to share just the prints with you because the tutorial uses something very unexpected for Gel Press prints - liquid watercolor! And a shimmery acrylic that makes them work. Then I add in Impressables and alcohol inks for a mixed media party! So stay tuned below for the video and for a little birthday present I bought myself.

It's so shimmery in real life - but you'll see in the video, along with numerous other prints. I might make these into bags along with my leaf bags. We will see.

Here are the supplies I used - really very minimal supplies! Then come back for my birthday present and a few thoughts about today.

Okay so I'm taking today off Facebook because it's not a day I care to relive through everyone posting photos and memories. I just cannot.

So I thought I'd share my birthday presents to myself, which I timed to arrive this week.

I have very clumsy cats. They love to jump up onto my desk and then onto the card catalog, which is higher. Sometimes they misjudge and since where they jump up is usually where I have my coffee, I can't tell you how many times they've spilled my coffee all over my desk. Since I got my new Uplift Standing desk, which we custom cut a wood IKEA top for, I figured I can't have that anymore - my other desk was a MICKE desk from IKEA with easy to clean melamine. This desk will stain with 16 oz. of cold brew.

So I set out in search of a cup with a lid. I know some of you will ask why I didn't go with YETI, but sadly, YETI cups are made in China, and I will not put food or beverages into anything made in China. So I went with one of my favorite companies that manufactures in Florida - Tervis

I picked a few of the cups with lids and was pleasantly surprised to find that they now have licensed art from some of my favorite shows - Scooby Doo, Stranger Things, Harry Potter, Parks & Rec - and they even have Charlie Brown and Baby Yoda!

This might be a fun gift for our poor beleaguered parent teachers and teacher teachers right now!

Check out what I bought.

Schrute Farms - I DIE!

So anyway - I love them. I've had their cups forever but these are my first with lids, and so far my desk is safe.

If you've been wondering if sending cards makes a difference, I'll leave you with this. In 2015, I posted on my blog a request for y'all to send cards to Alex, my Costco greeter. You can read that request here.

Today, I opened the mail to find a card from him - five years later. What you are doing matters in people's lives. Keep doing it. Thank you to everyone who encouraged him five years ago to keep going. He did.
