Negative Space Fill Monoprints VIDEO + Giveaway

*Compensated affiliate links used where possible at zero cost to you. No posts are ever sponsored or paid.*

Happy Friday, my friends!!!

I've been playing with ideas for my virtual retreat - have you signed up yet - and so I've had my Gel Press on my desk all week! So that means tons of cards because I get so many prints per session.

All this while battling a bizarre doorbell incident. We replaced our very old Ring doorbell with an Arlo doorbell. I really liked it. For a day. Until a mysterious bonging started. It started the day after we installed it. Naturally, we thought the sound was coming from our doorbell chime in the hall. So we messed with that a bit. Then, by 9 PM when the bonging was still happening despite our chime box being disconnected, we made a horrifying discovery.

we have two doorbells

I'm going to need someone to explain to me why in a tiny house, a person feels the need - honestly for even one chime box - I hate the doorbell - FOR TWO DOORBELL CHIMES. ONE OF WHICH IS LOCATED NEAR OUR BEDROOM.

WHY?

So we rage disconnected it - and lo and behold - there was still bonging. I'll save you everything in between that and when the Arlo stopped working, but it was pretty maddening. Our final solution was to hook everything back up exactly the way it was after the install - and poof - the Arlo started working again and the bonging didn't come back. Mysterious. And we are still left with they mystery of the LUNATICS that wanted to hear their doorbell two times.

I do give five stars to Arlo though. My older Ring had a terrible lag and poor connectivity. This one is great.

Today is a fun aspect of monoprinting that I love. Every time you use a stencil or a mask to print you get two different types of prints. One with open empty space that you can fill with another medium, and one with positive imagery. I have a video for you so you know what I mean, but here are the samples from my session and a few extra card with some GORGEOUS stencils being released today - there's a bundle that includes a combination of geometric and botanical stencils - you can see the full bundle here. Stay tuned for the video and a giveaway below!

First up - what I call the positive image print with this stunning leaves stencil. On this print, I used teal, quinacridone magenta and Hansa yellow Golden Open Acrylics. I finished it with this lovely die.

This is another positive space print. I finished it with alcohol ink and the same dies.

Now this is one of the negative space prints - totally different look to the stencil!

And the second negative space print - I love how blocky it is and these hot colors.

Such a fun notecard set and so quick.

But how am I supposed to resist geometric designs? I AM NOT. So I used this fun circle stencil, and I just used one color, rotated it in my MISTI, used a second color, rotated, third color, rotated, fourth color. Every little square it creates is totally different! so much fun. I used the sentiment from this set on a circle of duralar. I adhered it with my invisible vellum adhesive

And finally, I blended a rainbow through this fun stencil -  I love that it can be used to point to an image or a sentiment. I used the sentiment from this set.

Minecraft Inspired Birthday Card + Giveaway

*Compensated affiliate links used where possible at zero cost to you. No posts are ever sponsored or paid.*

I inherited my love of graph paper from my dad. I have so much graph paper. I'd snatch it up first if the house were on fire.

So all things grid grab me in a big way.

Also, I know LITERALLY nothing about Minecraft except that I've seen its grid style used by my mom friends whose kids love it, so I love it just for that, and that's what inspired today's card and video.

I'm using Altenew's new Mixed Media Inks today - a beautiful set of pigment inks that are permanent when heat set on a lot of surfaces - but what I love about pigment inks is what I loved when I started stamping - DARE I SAY 40 YEARS AGO - the coverage. I just love how they stamp - especially on brand spanking new photopolymer stamps and solid images like the one I'm using.

So I used them on this amazing Checkerboard set to create a birthday card for my friend Kat who is my game buddy in Pokemon Go! I'm glad we haven't discovered Minecraft, actually because we'd probably obsess over it. I used Coral Berry and Frayed Leaf for this - the ink bundle has a decidedly floral/botanical theme, as you'll see below.

Here's what the bundle looks like - OH MY GOODNESS the color combos. Now I want a big cabbage stamp for that green combo. So pretty.
Here is my video of today's card!

Here are all the supplies I used today.

Using Shading Stencils + Giveaway

*Compensated affiliate links used where possible at zero cost to you. No posts are ever sponsored or paid.*

Happy Tuesday my friends!

I spent the weekend getting some critical organizational things done and going through our quarantined mail, and winding embroidery floss for some more stitching projects. I have started putting my phone on DND on the weekends to try to be more productive when I'm not working, and it's really helped. Amazing how many distractions your phone creates - they all add up.

Unfortunately, a Stitcher outage that is still happening coincided with my unplugged work weekend. I had to switch players temporarily and not all my favorite podcasts are on the other player. So I had to get most of my work done in murder-free silence. Zero stars. Do not recommend.

But I did get lots done and gave a lot of things away on my Buy Nothing Project Group for people who are starting up home classrooms - I realized I have so many things that will be great for new at-home teachers - fun pencils/pens/paper/pencil sharpeners/magnets etc. It was fun to give it away. People will be spending probably more than ever, not less, because they have to provide all the MANY things teachers had available, so it's a challenge. Look around and see if you have some things that might be fun for the newly homeschooled!

Anyway, one of the things I worked on was videos, and I have one for you today using this gorgeous new layering shading stencil set that matches this stamp and die combo. So gorgeous and easy to use. If you aren't super into detailed coloring methods, you will love this.

So here's the card. The ink colors I used are: Mountain Mist, Volcano Lake, Firebrick, Sun Kissed and Orange Cream.

You will see the video below.

Next up, I decided to do two very different styles with the ADORABLE new camping set. First up, two cards with no-line watercolor. I love how camping is experiencing a renaissance now - not because I camp - but because I love the outdoors, and I hope that lots more people are experiencing the peace only nature can bring than were doing so prior to this crazy year.

When I saw the sleeping bag and pack in the camping set, my mind went straight to the military. So I again did no-line watercolor in olives and added a sentiment from Land of the Free

I used the camping set again with a firelight effect with Altenew alcohol markers. I may have a video coming with this card - my phone ate part of so I'll have to see what is left. I watercolored the panel behind the critters from this cute baby set that I cut with the matching dies, and I splattered it with Bleedproof White for stars. Then I put the die cut and colored critters on top of that. I love using baby sets in non-baby ways, and these were perfect for the camping theme.

So want to see the video for the first card? You can see it below or on YouTube here

You know what else they have this month? WAX SEAL PRODUCTS!! These were my gateway drug into stamping and I was so excited to see these. Click the photo to see the full line or click here.

Here are all the products I used today.
