Adventure Awaits... In Your Craft Room

Okay well it's 2020, so no REAL adventure awaits, but we can have a paper adventure! That's what I am doing for my Friday. 

When I received my Leaf Stencil, it instantly screamed mountains to me - the open spaces in the stencil looked like the pieces of rock sticking out from underneath the snow of Mt. Everest. So I wanted to try making a landscape with it. 

Now speaking of snow - I have an amazing book recommendation for you after my video. And a terrible story about how long I waited for this book. 

This is just simple ink blending - my colors are listed below - and it forms the backdrop for my cute little camper girl, which is part of today's Stamptember collaboration with my friend Tifany! I'm so excited for her! 

I colored her with my alcohol fineliners (coupon in the footer), and cut her out to put in front of my mountains, which could also pass for trees. 

There is a little boy in the set, and the sentiments are fun - great for campers, scouts, etc. UBER short video on the card base below.

Okay, so it's been a crazy three years for me. So in that time, I had to let some things go, and one of them was the absolutely horrid public library interface for borrowing audiobooks. 

If we dug up Lenin and all the dead Soviets and had them invent the world's most inefficient and unfriendly, bureaucratic and hideous book borrowing service they could conceive of, it still wouldn't hold a candle to the Austin Public Library. 

George Orwell probably spins in his grave every time someone tries to check out an e-book or audiobook.

So I just walked away. But I walked away with several requests for audiobooks active. 

And get this. I get an email this week telling me TWO books I requested - wait for it - 

in November of 2017

were finally available!

That's right - THREE YEARS TO CHECK OUT AN AUDIOBOOK. Bravo, APL. Bravo. 

Well anyway the first book is quite good. It's interesting to me how politics infects everything. In this case, meteorology, among other things. The scientific explanation of this horrific storm is fascinating. And the discussion of early meteorology in the US and how it became politicized is quite something. 

I haven't listened to the other one yet, so I'll report back.

Coloring Snow & Winter Skies + Winner Info From Faux Verdigris Post

I went down a Copic tutorial rabbit hole this week, probably when I was supposed to be doing something else.

I'm not good at Copic coloring, so I'll state that up front. It's just not a medium I have spent enough time in to have gained any skill.

So when I want to create something I haven't colored before I find tutorials. This week, I googled "coloring snow" and I got a great tutorial on the Copic Europe site for simple snow coloring and got the bonus of this GORGEOUS winter sky background, so I did a terrible, inexpert recreation of Faye Wynn Jones beautiful, softly blended sky. But look at mine first, so you don't feel sorry for me and my coloring skills :D I used the same markers she lists for the sky. The sentiment is stamped in Nocturne while the image is stamped in Amalgam ink.

This adorable snowman and his kitty are today's collaboration with my sweet friend Nicole Peterson of Picket Fence Studios and Simon Says Stamp. This is a Stamptember exclusive, so if you like snowmen and cats, grab it here before it sells out. Nearly every set I've seen so far has sold out! It's a large stamp set with tons of snowmen and hilarious sentiments. That's kind of Nicole's thing, and she's good at it. I'm so excited that Picket Fence Studios is part of Stamptember this year - I know it's very exciting for her.

I think "Be sure to shake your flakes this season" is my favorite sentiment!

But I told Nicole I have a LOT of stamps, and I'm 100% sure I've never seen a snowman with a kitty on his head before! So adorable. And a lot like my cats, who like to drape themselves around our necks 24/7.

What a cool Faux Verdigris technique and what a gorgeous card!!! Thanks for the opportunity to win the amazing stamp set. Most of my inks are from Stampin Up, so my fave all time color is Almost Amethyst, now retired. I painted my first craft room with that color! Thanks again and God bless!
