I can tell when Maddie is in a bad mood. Mockingbirds are jerks. Splotchy attempts to speak English daily. Both cats can hear what is apparently my "cheese voice", and come running, sometimes out of a dead sleep, to get a piece of cheese. Both cats FREAK out if I start laughing so hard I can't breathe and come purr and meow at me and pat my face. Apparently my cats know what crying is and think I'm doing that and it stresses them out.
These aren't imaginary things. These are facts. I'm not assigning these behaviors to them, they are displaying these behaviors.
So why in the world should the three wise men not be represented by penguins? THEY SHOULD, and today they are! Anthropomorphism is rampant in the stamping industry, and I could not be happier about it.
This new to me British company has the coolest LARGE stamps that are wonderful for watercolor. (If you are in the UK, I have a link to a UK retailer here or in the supply list below.)
I masked and stamped these penguins and the sentiment from this set in Nocturne on watercolor paper. Then I cut a mask for both, and secured this Christmas star stencil over the whole scene with Pixie Spray on the back of the stencil so it wouldn't move.. I used Life Changing Blender brushes to add Morning Mist ink very lightly. Then I watercolored them with Daniel Smith watercolor. Hard to see here, but I added sparkles with this pen to the fur on the largest penguin's crown.
Look at their little smiles :) I like my penguin wise men happy, KWIM? Despite the size of these images, they are VERY quick to color, so I consider this a duplicatable holiday card. Sit on the couch with a few watercolor pencils and you could crank out cute very original Christmas cards.
