No, I don't mean the part about getting bitten by a spider and then being able to run up a building - that's not a lie, that's fiction. There's a difference.
I mean the whole secret life thing.
I've listened to like 25,000 hours of crime podcasts, and many of them involve secret lives. But none of them are secret lives being Spiderman. I want to hear a story of someone with an AWESOME secret life. Like during the day they are a bank teller, and at night they go around paying people's utility bills. (But not with money they stole from the bank - that would spoil it.)
If I had a secret life, it would definitely be as a ninja. Sneaking around, flinging throwing stars at bad guys stealing old lady's purses. I already only wear black, so I'm perfect for this job.
That's what inspired my card today. Well that and this adorable stamp set from Altenew.
|
The case for these holds a waterbrush too, which is included.
Now one of my actual other secret lives is as an imaginary chef, so I have some recipe updates and tips today.
One of the very few things that I do NOT make from scratch is brownies, because Ghirardelli does such a very fine job with their mixes, but I do do a small upgrade to them. I use this mix, and I do two things. First - instead of vegetable oil in the mix, which is SUPREMELY boring, I use either unrefined, expeller pressed coconut or peanut oil in them. The unrefined oils retain their flavor, so the brownies come out tasting peanutty or coconutty and they are DIVINE. Second, I cook the mix in a 13x9 pan, even though they are supposed to be cooked in an 8x8 pan. This makes the entire pan of brownies like the corner piece - chewy and awesome and half the thickness.
In the update department, one of my all time favorite personal recipes is my Chicken Enchiladas Suiza, but I became lactose intolerant and so I've had to modify my recipes accordingly. Well, I modified this recipe and it's even BETTER than the original. I made it last night and now I'm going to make another one just for the freezer so future Lydia has more time for her secret life as a ninja. The recipe is here, with both the original ingredients and the substitutions, and if you can't find that seasoning or the salsa in your area, I included places you can find them.
Okay - back to crafting.
Your next stop on the watercolor release hop today is Kathy, and SIX lucky commenters will win $50 shopping sprees to Altenew, so don't forget to finish the hop and comment before the deadline of 8/15.
They also gave me a $30 shopping spree to one of you, so be sure and comment by the same deadline, so leave me a comment telling me what YOUR secret life would be to be eligible to win my giveaway and Altenew's.
And wait - you will get a FREE watercolor pan case(value $5.99) with the purchase of the watercolor pan set for a limited time. The free gift will be added to your cart automatically.
Okay - I think that's it. Ninjas, enchiladas, brownies and watercolor. What the heck else does a person need in life?
Loveyameanitbye.
Don't know which I love more--your card creations or your food creations! Both are awesome in my book!!!
ReplyDeleteThe card is sweet..and my secret life would be in the jungle with the fairies!!
ReplyDeleteMy secret life would be dame of the castle❤️

ReplyDeleteCool card. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteJust secretly doing good deeds for others! Love your fun card!
ReplyDeleteLove that colorful background!
ReplyDeleteI was just looking at this water color release. Very pretty for sure. And my husband always says he will use his ninja skills to do things like get the spider off the porch 18 feet high. Lol. I might need this set as well.
ReplyDeleteSo cute, I love these ninja's! My secret life.... would be to home the homeless, but that would involve winning the lottery. A really big one. But heck, with $168 million dollars, I shelter a lot of people....dreaming big.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I've never thought about having a secret life. Dull. Boring. I know. lol I have always thought about what it would be like to be able to fly (& not in an airplane!). So maybe 'an eye in the sky' to be an alert for the police. Plus I've always enjoyed people watching. lol
ReplyDeleteYour card is awesome, Ninja!
Super fun card!!
ReplyDeleteFirst, I love your ninja card! My secret life.. hmmm... I think I would be a dancer! I am pretty ungraceful (awkward?) and definitely not very coordinated.. LOL... When my 3 girls used to dance I lived vicariously through them.. they got their dad's grace!
ReplyDeleteLove your super fun card!! My secret life would be running around rescuing all the dogs!!!
ReplyDeleteLol this was a funny post and you won me over with the ninja. That is one of my favorite sets from Altenew. Also, I agree, peanut oil for the win! I would like to be an origami bomber, which is kind of like a yarn-bomber (where they knit sweaters on statues, fences or random city attractions). I would have a huge sheet of paper, make something cool, and string it up from the side of a building or ceiling. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteSecret life, wow, I have many. The first one that came to kind is Marine special forces and the second is a play by ear pianist. Now there's some extremes. Thanks for getting the creativity flowing.
ReplyDeleteMy secret life would be mowing the lawns of those small houses that surround my church. I’d have to get a silent lawn mower and mow during the night so that when the homeowner woke up, they would be surprised to see their trimmed lawn. Oh, I’d need a silent trimmer, too.
ReplyDeleteI've never thought about having a secret life before, so that question really stumped me. I think your suggestion of helping people on the down low would be cool. I could imagine providing financial or other suppport ananomously to everyday folks that just needed a helping hand once in a while. Great use of the new watercolor set on your card.
ReplyDeleteMy secret life would be to know who needs it, and leave secret encouraging notes to them and knowing exactly what to say. ^^ thanks for the recipe tips!
ReplyDeleteI just LOVE this awesome Ninja, one of my very favorites! My secret life would be crafty person by day, and at night, I would protect marine wildlife. I would make the baby sea turtles would make it to the ocean, and I would make sure dolphins are safe and not stuck in nets, and I would save starfish and sea horses from oil spills and other disasters. That would be my best secret life!
ReplyDeleteThese water colors look so nice! Love how your card turned out. In my secret life, I would probably be a candy maker. I love making homemade caramels!
ReplyDeleteLove your ninja card with the watercolor splashes! Gosh, I don't know what I would be in my secret life, maybe a dog! Love that they came out with this great watercolor set and that it is the same colors as their inks!
ReplyDeleteMy secret life would be to teach the less fortunate how to shop for low(er) cost grocery ingredients, as well as how to plan & cook simple, filling and nutritious meals.
ReplyDeleteHa! Ha! In my secret life I would like to be a real watercolor artist. Of course, it wouldn't be secret unless I went around leaving beautiful pictures for people to find. I've already ordered this watercolor set and can't wait for it to come. I love the beautiful bright colors it seems to have.
ReplyDeletedarling card, Lydia - and thx for the recipe ideas too!
ReplyDeleteYou are hilarious; I just love reading your posts. LOVE the Ninja card... And...um...I've never tried the Ghiradelli brownie mix - clearly I'm missing something!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty colored background....Funny little Ninja.....thank you so much
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love this! A watercolour set that is compact, easy to carry around, that co-ordinates with all my Altenew Inks. Love that the pans can be taken out so that individual colours can be replaced that are used more often. And the card inspiration is awesome! No secret life I'm afraid, just a wish for more free hours to craft :)
ReplyDeleteIn my secret life I would be a floral designer or botanical watercolor artist 😊
ReplyDeleteSuch Vibrant splashes of color behind your ninja! LOVE the new watercolors from Altenew:)
ReplyDeleteFound your write up and card very interesting :) !! Wasn't something I was expecting ( in a nice way ) .My secret life would be a tour guide . Just simply love to travel and make memory books .
ReplyDeleteHow cute! I love the background for your little ninja too :)
ReplyDeleteCute Ninja I like the background for your ninja character....well done on the card and shring it
ReplyDeleteMy secret life would be a secret shopper...lol
Love the colorful background to the card! Really makes the ninja pop! If I had to choose, I think my secret life would revolve somehow around providing food "care packages" (and/or affordable orthotic/prosthetic devices) to those in need. I guess that's more along the superhero vigilante route. Or Robin Hood :D ~ Lenice
ReplyDeleteLove the Ninja card.
ReplyDeleteI also made your chicken enchilada recipe, everyone loved it. So much easier than rolling the tortillas.
HA! I love it!!!!! The Ninja is great! Who says you can only do flowers with watercolors :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely ninja card! Awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteI would be a Secret Reader Man (like a secret agent man, only I look for readers and reward them, not criminals to arrest).
ReplyDeleteMy secret life...my secret life...my secret life...OMG I can't think of what it would be!! Oh for crying out loud! What would my secret life be? ooooo a private eye catching cheaters! I only recently found watercolors and am in love with them.
ReplyDeleteCute fun card!
ReplyDeleteLydia, your card is delightful. The new watercolor set creates a great background for your figure. tfs
ReplyDeleteCute card! Clever sentiment. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIn my secret life, I am a set designer for all the cool movies.
ReplyDeleteooooo, mine would be finding people on their 'last leg' and slipping them a load of cash. ninja style!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Ninjas, enchiladas, brownies and watercolor would just about cover it. I made your enchiladas last night for dinner - AMAZING! I would love to have a secret life as the tooth fairy. How fun would that be to visit sweet children and watch them sleep while leaving them a little gift. Plus, I'd get to wear a tiara.
ReplyDeleteLove this post and this Ninja which reminds me that I need to use it more. My secret life would be mother by day and invisible whisper where I’d whisper good ideas and suggestions to people to improve situations/ feelings. Like an invisible positive karma shot. Lol.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Ninja card, LOVE the vibrant water colors! Thanks for the recipes, I hope to try the enchilada one soon. I think in my secret life, I'd like to be a pilot, fly internationally and see the world.
ReplyDeleteIf I had a secret life and the skills to go along with it I would be a traveling paramedic saving lives as I go.
ReplyDeleteWow!! You are just all over the place with recipe ideas & watercolors!! I have this same Ninja stamp set, used it once, and plan to use it way more!! I'm just your average chef trying new recipes as I find them. It's just my husband & I now...so ...really? How many recipes are for just two?? ANYWAY...I would love to be a billionaire & secretly gift many needed dollars to many needy people or organizations, who would never expect it but needed it the most, and all anonymously!!
ReplyDeleteGreat card, great secret life! My secret life would be tax accountant by day, super crafter by night, helping people fight crime wielding a heat tool and a glue gun... and some watercolors.
ReplyDeleteAnd glitter.
My friends would know me as the mild mannered stay at home mom, but my alter ego would be known as Zip Zap... the superhero (some would think villain) that 'zips' around town in restaurants, highways, schools, and dinner tables and 'zaps' the cell phones of everyone in the vicinity. The phones wouldn't be permanently damaged but they would be unusable (except to dial 911) for hours and a message would be displayed encouraging actual face to face interaction with the living things around them. :-) Love your card! Checking out your recipe!!!
ReplyDeleteLydia, Thank you for sharing this very cute card. It is adorable!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your cute card. Love it!
ReplyDeleteYour ninja really pops off of that rainbow background! I love the inspiration for this card. My secret life would maybe be a detective investigating celebrities who’ve done crimes? I don’t know haha but thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThese colors are gorgeous and loved that they are very similar to AN inks; the case and brushes are very practical; awesome card design, I think I would be a mermaid ;), Thanks for sharing Lydia!
ReplyDeletemy secret life... an artist who spends her days painting on the veranda overlooking the ocean.
ReplyDeleteNot linking you to Russian brides or Nigerian princes but here to thank you for sharing your card made with the Altenew watercolors. Would love to compare them to my professional watercolors in a mixed media piece :-)
ReplyDeleteMy secret life would be to be a watercolor artist...I love watercolor.

ReplyDeletefun card. the background looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteAmazing ninja card! I would be a talented and colorful artist and a time traveler so I Gould have lots of time to be creative. Or to be Cable to go back and fix all mistakes:-)
ReplyDeleteAdorable card and stamp set! I think in my secret life, I would be a late-night baker. I would bake something different each night and eat all the goodies before my husband woke up. He's on a low glycemic diet, so sweets aren't really on the menu.
ReplyDeleteCute card! I really love the different water colors that you have surrounded behind the little Ninja guy! Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree about stacked enchiladas. Your recipe looks amazing. My secret life: I would love to be an amazing artist, but I am so happy to be retired and have time to play with colors that I don't really care if my finished work isn't "artist quality!" My art teachers in school were more about the end product, so it's a gift to learn that it is incredibly satisfying to just play with the colors and techniques, even if you never "make anything" from what you did. Thanks. I love your ninja.
ReplyDeleteI'm still giggling so I have to quote you "Ninjas, enchiladas, brownies and watercolor. What the heck else does a person need in life?" It's pretty much what I was thinking when I finished reading LOL. Oh, and I love your card too :)
ReplyDeleteYou brighten my day with your funny blog posts and love your card. I really would have loved to have been a rebel with an outgoing personality that saved the world. So different from quiet me.
ReplyDeletegold I think my secret life would have to be a Calligrapher. I love parchment paper with all of my gold shiny inks around me, ready to be written on. You know addressing envelopes and making flourishes as needed!
ReplyDeleteFun Ninja card...love the background. My secret life would be to travel the world without any budget!
ReplyDeleteGreat demo of how the ink pads match the watercolors. Love the background.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your blog and ninja card was creative! I think my secret life I would be a jockey to race horses! It would be fun to be on a horse going that fast
ReplyDeleteLove you card! The watercolour background is fabulous and love the sparkly stars! Secret life - well, I'm not very secretive and I'm sure it wouldn't be very secret at all, but my secret life would be an astronaut for sure.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute Lydia, love the colours!
ReplyDeleteIn MY secret life I'd be a cat whisperer...LOL (Crazy cat lady!)
I'm not sure what my secret life would be, but I know it would be in Texas, my home state, and where my heart is still.
ReplyDeletetinyfeet 22 at yahoo . com
A cool card!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards! Can’t wait to try these out - the colors look so pigmented!
ReplyDeleteGreat card. My secret life? A not over weight food critic (anonymous)who's real job is as a illustrative artist skilled with color, design, and all things color related (especially paper and inks. Not asking for too much, am I?
ReplyDeleteGreat new watercolor set from Altenew. Hmmm, secret life--I love what I do for a living and of course crafting, but I also have a few health issues, so in my secret life I wouldn't have celiac disease or food allergies and could cook and eat whatever I want! I'd also be an amazing artist--especially with being able to draw free hand.
ReplyDeleteLove your ninja card! My secret life would be a private detective.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your cool ninja card and vibrant background :)
ReplyDeleteHaha... secret life, never have to think of one until now, hmm.... maybe Pixie!
ReplyDeleteI love the your fun card!
Such a fun card. I love that background. As for my secret life, I'm older and retired so it would have to be something requiring little energy -- but I do love crafting, so maybe I'd be an artist, assuming my fantasy life came with skills!
ReplyDeleteIf I had a secret life it would be to take homeless dogs from the streets, shelters, and rescue facilities, and put them in their perfect home, where they would be loved and well-taken care of. Every dog deserves this!! This would make me so happy!!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great set! Love how you did the background, Lydia.
ReplyDeleteGreat background! Makes the black little Ninja really stand out. Cute card! I think my secret life would be as a cheery card dropper. I'd like to send encouraging cards to people unawares. That would be fun.
ReplyDeleteWhat my secret life would be that I had this super power to be able to fly around like Superman! I know dorky! But I really do wish that I could fly though!!
ReplyDeleteMy secret life would be a witch like Samantha in Bewitched so I could twitch my nose and have a clean house without sweating or make annoying people disappear.
ReplyDeleteVery cute!
ReplyDeleteI love the little ninjas. Not sure what my secret life would be. Since I love flowers I would love to randomly leave flowers on people's cars just to start their day off right.
ReplyDeleteSuch fun card!! You got me thinking about what my secret life would be, right now I wish a have a super power to heal people from their sickness.
ReplyDeleteI love the watercolour set! The colours are so vibrant yet subtle. My secret life would be feeding as many street dogs as i can every night, that would be fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! My secret life would be as a courier of intelligence info.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful ninja, interesting secret life you have, don't think I've read another post about this before.watercolours do look gorgeous don't they. My secret life would be having the ability to be invisible, gain entrance to anywhere & give out invisible justice to evil wrong doers that deserve to be given a taste of own medicine, & I know who I'm starting with lol
ReplyDeleteThe new watercolours are gorgeous. And I love the cute inspiration card! My secret life would be as a fabulous singer! Unfortunately I cannot carry a tune to save my life. So being a Secret Singing Sensation remains my favourite fantasy!
ReplyDeleteAwesome release! Beautiful project! awesome ninja!
ReplyDeleteOkay Lydia, I had a tough time deciding whether to comment on these lovely looking new watercolour paints that I'd really like to be able to purchase or whether to look at your recipes first. I LOVE good food. I've been called a foodie all my life & am always looking for something different. I'm a fan of Mexican food, as long as there isn't too much chili pepper heat. Your card is so cute. I had to stop & think of what kind of a super hero I'd be... I'd be the kind who scoops up children & animals from abusive situations & can offer them a safe, loving home environment. I know, dream on, right?
ReplyDeleteYour card is so cute! I've never thought about having a secret life, I love things creative and crafty. I wish I could create beautiful gardens, a home full of homegrown and preserved goodies, and make country crafts. I've been told I have an "old world" spirit but I'm not exactly sure what that means or how I could make that into a secret life. I'll have to ponder on it awhile. LOL
ReplyDeleteLol, you are the Erma Bombeck of the card making realm! I love your humor...
ReplyDelete...And since you asked, my secret life would be to grow peonies to make people smile. Oh wait, I'm already praying that I would one day own apeony farm here in Alaska and it would become reality. I'll keep you updated on my secret life if you keep me updated on yours! ;)
These water colours look amazing. Can’t wait to tr6 them.
ReplyDeleteLove your blogs. They make my day. Got my Altenew watercolors today and can't wait to play. Thanks for inspiring all of us.
ReplyDeleteI secret life for me. Bit boring I know. Lol.

ReplyDeletemy secret life would be a police officer! super cute card!
ReplyDeleteThis is ADORABLE!!!!! My secret life??? Hmmmm perhaps the life of a time controller. Hug a little longer, say things you need to say! I’d make sure that happiness had time! We don’t make enough time for happy! Oh and Daylight savings would be flushed out with the poop water

ReplyDeleteOh and my secret life would be as a gymnast! Would love to be able to flip around!
ReplyDeleteMy secret life would be a spy so I could travel to foreign, exotic places! Thank you for the recipe for the Chicken Enchiladas. I use coconut oil in my brownies already and now want to try peanut oil too! Love your ninja card with the gorgeous watercolors too!
ReplyDeleteFun card. I love the Ghirardelli brownies. I will definitely try your variations. As for my secret life it would be wearing the transit security uniform and dragging up students and the totally able sitting in the priority seating on the train by their ipod infused ears and allowing the pregnant ladies, the elderly or blind to sit down on the crowded trains.
ReplyDeleteCute card. Thank you
ReplyDeletehahaha. love your ninja and the secret life idea. Hmm, let's think. If I had a secret life it would be to be able to secretly deiver notes saying loving things to as many people as I could each night. So you'd wake up and with your post or in your letterbox / door mat would be a really living pick-me-up like "You are so loved", "You are incredible, let your light shine today!", "Love is everywhere", etc etc A secret love affirmation ninja. LOL
ReplyDeleteCute card. My secret life would be a telepathy cat burglar. e.g. I would sneak into the bedroom at night of whoever makes the decisions in the VA health care system and tell them by telepathy while they are sleeping to start using Natural Path and other alternative means to treat veterans rather than the cheapest drugs that only hides the symptoms and causes more harm than the original problem. That way they might think it's a good idea and implement it.
ReplyDeleteMy secret life is a wildlife and landscape photographer. I love watercolors and am so excited Altenew has come out with a set, and the accessories!
ReplyDeleteLydia, fun colorful ninja background. I can see you throwing ninja "blue sparkly" ninja stars at anyone who doesn't attempt some form of art. ;) As for my secret life, you've given me something to ponder. Happy crafting, and Hugaroonies!
ReplyDeleteHi Lydia! I've just sworn off the multiple character super hero movies...can't handle the violence and constant chasing! I do however like the ones like Dr. Strange that focus on one character. I love your idea of a secret life!!! I would be a charitable sprite that would replace overnight things people have lost....car keys....homework assignments...overdue library books...work reports :) I'll also be trying your recipe for Chicken Enchiladas Suiza! Thanks for sharing all this goodness and your secret ninja life with us :)
ReplyDeleteHmm. I think my secret life would be an adventurer! :)
ReplyDeletePerfect colourful background for this awesome ninja. I've also thought about being a ninja or (the darker side) assassin.
ReplyDeleteLove the colours.
ReplyDeleteBy day I work in an office doing stats, reviewing evidence and being sensible and logical but secretly I'm a passionate artist - sometimes evidenced by blue or purple fingers in the office 😉
Such awesome ninja card! As for my secret life I always wanted to be astronaut. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful colorful background! My secret life is super weird, but I would be the Cap manager for the Washington Capitals...you know, manage the salary cap and let them know who they can bring up from the minor leagues, who they could trade for/sign for how much etc. I assume that one of the perks of this job is I can go to all the games I want lol.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I love the saying!!!!! great card
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable card! Love those colors!
ReplyDeleteMy secret life would be to be a professional organizer.... haha! Because I suck at organizing! Wish I had that talent!

ReplyDeleteYou must be a cooking Ninja by night! Hahaha. Cute card and these watercolors look fabulous! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLOL, this card is just too funny! Wish I had mad ninja skills!
ReplyDeleteHmm, my secret life would be a detective searching out all the clues. Maybe someday I'll find what I'm looking for! In the meantime I'll be trying out these awesome new Altenew watercolors. Adorable Ninja card with a fab background.
ReplyDeleteIn my secret life I would be a plant! (secret life of plants) tee hee, I would make sure to be a walking, talking & painting plant!
ReplyDelete
