At first I was thinking I'd do a classic, mixed media trading coin like the ones I like to look at online.
Oh - and if you don't know what an Artist Trading Coin is - it's just like an Artist Trading Card, except it's done on a 2.5" circle. So our community group decided to have two swaps - a 1 for 1 swap where we just sent one coin, and a full swap where we sent 17 and got 17 back.
So anyway, I had this Concord & 9th set of heads sitting on my desk that I had planned to make birthday cards with - I had stamped them with my local buddies a few weeks before. And maybe it was just having a pile of heads on my desk that led me to my eventual inspiration - and that was to stick the heads on some black and white comics I had in my "use this book in your art" pile.
The first one was a Walking Dead comic. Yes, I can hear people freaking out about me cutting up a Walking Dead comic book, to which I say - WHATEVER. :) This is way better. The one in the bottom row with the zombie coming for the deer cracks me up. I also had a Dilbert one in a GIANT book I have on the history of comics, which could not have been more perfect. I have a link to the exact comic I used and the book below
I laughed like a crazy person every time I put a head down on a page and it worked perfectly! I'm still laughing, actually.
So here they are! Hee hee....

The back, I did make a little more arty. I blended Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade and Peacock Feathers oxide inks on cardstock I glued to the circles, and splashed water on them before stamping them.
I cut my top papers with the Circle Infinity dies, which just happen to have a 2.5" die in them - YAY! As for the base of the circles - I cut some from chipboard and glued two pieces together to make them sturdy - but then my friend Tandra found some thicker ones you can just buy on Etsy, so I did that.
You can put these in ATC pocket pages or make an accordion book for them. We do have a new swap opening in my group right now, so if you join, check the events tab for details.

ReplyDeleteI used to do ATC swaps on swap-bot. Haven't had much time for crafty stuff in recent years besides the occasional birthday card and Christmas cards every couple years. I would love to try these and also get back into the cards.
ReplyDeleteI laughed like a crazy person when I opened mine! I knew EXACTLY who created it 😂😂💜💜💜 yay on cutting up “gasp” books..... I didn’t commit a Nancy Drew crime 😊
