Ahhhh my favorite season has arrived - the season of SPOOKY. And after the year we've had - really? What can scare us?
I listen to a great podcast called LORE. And recently they've turned it into a show - an Amazon original. The intro graphics are so beautiful, and I love that the show is narrated by the podcast host - Aaron Mahnke. I prefer podcasts to shows, but I have to say this is a very well done version of the podcast.
Anyway, my spooky loving Irish heart is revealed early on in a show about my crazy ancestors, so do give it a watch.
I love all things spooky - EXCEPT crazy German fairy tales - those people are a bit too dark for even me. What the heck.
While I 100% agree that you have to scare sense into kids sometimes, those weirdos took it too far. I prefer benign spooky like Dr. Seuss' creepy pants out in the woods, and oh? What is this? A SCARY BLUE PUMPKIN PATCH????
Welcome to this month's Hero Arts kit of my dreams. It's a Heroscape (love) it's pumpkins (love) it can be spooky (love)AND I MADE IT ALL BLUE. Cornflower and Indigo to be precise.
I have a video of this card below with a tip on how to make the ground look moonlit by sort of reversing the idea of layering stamp colors. It would have been a perfectly benign scene had I not chosen to add the SUPER SCARY JACK-O-LANTERN FACE YOU ARE WELCOME. Heh.
Okay - back to zombies for my favorite card of the release! As my friend Pam said, it's so very Thriller! I used the same zombie stamp from this set, but made one of them coming up out of the grave. This one is done with the same colors from the first card - cornflower and Indigo, and the sentiment is from this set. There is a stamp that fills in the flowers, and I thought about doing them red, but I love the spooky all blue mood.
Here's what the full kit looks like, and based on the samples I've seen, it's going to go fast, so you've been warned.
Now the other day, I brought you a sneak peek with this card - same kit images, but more 2020 appropriate. I used Wet Cement ink for ink blending and stamping, and fingerpainted the clouds. You can see the details of this card here. This is intermission - where I give you a non spooky card before going back to my natural spooky state. This amazing background stamp is new this month. I colored the negative space with my alcohol fineliners to get in the tiny spaces - coupon code in the footer of this post - and just left the rest - such a pretty stamp. The monthly word dies are great for birthday cards too - The September one fits perfectly across a card, so I cut it out of blue glitter paper and put it on some Duralar, attaching that to my card with invisible vellum adhesive.
Okay back to spooky! I loved the orange and grey combo above, so I mimicked it here with Wet Cement and Graphit markers and this amazing Graveyard Heroscape. I masked the sky and ink blended and stamped the clouds from this set (I have a video coming with this set), and the tree from this awesome Halloween set. I forsee a lot of zombie cards in my future. Everything is stamped in Wet Cement except the zombie, the greeting and the hand - muahahaha.
I know scarecrows are supposed to be scary, but dang they are scary. They are one notch under clowns! So I enhanced the spookiness of the scarecrow from this cute fall set. He's not cute anymore - HE IS GOING TO EAT YOU! I masked to create the glowing corner he's sitting in, just waiting for his victim.
The sentiment is from this set.
So here's my video with the inking trick on the first card.
The add-ons are GOLD this month - so many spooky possibilities! You can get all of them in a bundle for a discount here. If you can resist that zombie set, you are a stronger person than I am!
Here are all the supplies I used today. Don't forget to leave me a comment for a chance to win a $50 zombie gift certificate - comment by 9/13 and the winner will be announced HERE the following week! Then see some more amazing inspiration below.

Your card does remind me of that movie! Love your cards and those zombies.
ReplyDeleteI grew up with those german fairy tales but maybe because my dad had a wonderful stepmother they could not scare me as much as they are supposed to. But your blue field... Seriously, your cards are great. I love the zombie cards. ReplyDeleteHi, I am just getting caught up reading blogs. Unfortunitly, I was put in the hospital on 9-11 for a chronic illness, Creepy the date, COVID, and what's up in the world.
ReplyDeleteHow unbelievable that at the hospital they didn't have wi-fi! (it would be upsetting the Dr.'s said!), yet I had 300+ channels of TV. I live in the boonies, I don't watch TV.
Anyway when I was sprung 5 days later, there in my in box was Understand Blue, Splitcoasters, and a bunch of other blogs! Nothing upsetting here!
I love Halloween too! Never had a trick or treater, but as I said I'm in the boonies! I can be spooky though.
I really wish I got in on the Monthly Kit, from Hero Arts1 But, I have A HOARD according to my love, that I can make something very spooky.
Hope to get more fabulous Ideas here in my friend Blues Blog!
I'm back, is the world ready?
Definitely love the blue spooky cards the most. Thanks for creating and sharing them with us.
