Together is Always Better + $100 Giveaway

My absolute favorite stamp style is the storybook style like you see in children's book illustrations.

I think this is because this was the first time I was presented with visual art - that makes sense, right? So some of my favorite art will always be these illustrations - as a matter of fact, this weekend, my mom gave me the ACTUAL copy of Swimmy that I owned as a child. It made me very happy - I love that book. He was my first watercolor crush.

So when I see stamps that you can tell sweet stories with, I'm always sucked in immediately.

Today's new bunny set was no exception. I love this set so much that 2/3 of my class projects this weekend were overflowing with these bunnies.

These two bunnies holding hands reminded me of Pooh and Piglet walking in the woods, so I tried to recreate that with Daniel Smith watercolor. I stamped it in Fadeout ink first, and then just painted a blustery day around it and a very loose scene.

I used a very sharp Polychromos to add some fur around the edges of the bunnies. The sentiment is from this set and is stamped in Nocturne. Such a sweet image.

There's another bunny in the set that's smiling - and you could even use him on a praying for you card, because he looks like he's praying!

But that's not what my bunny is doing - my bunny is imagining that he's a peacock! I used the new negative die to create a negative tail in the black cardstock, and I put this glitter paper behind it.

The sentiment is from this set and is stamped in Unicorn. The bunny is watercolored with Daniel Smith.
Next up - a card that refused to be photographed! I painted the funky pineapple from this set in Nocturne, and cut it with the matching dies. But the coolest part of this card is invisible in my photo tent. The pineapple is sitting on a piece of watercolor paper that I embossed pineapples all over with the new pineapple stencil. (I used the Gemini Jr. and this sandwich: Bottom plate, plastic shim, embossing mat, paper, stencil, top plate. It gives a very deep emboss, which you'll see below.) The sentiment is from the same set and I just stamped it on a strip of white cardstock.

Here is a shot of the pineapples from the stencil stolen by the lighting.

Finally - my favorite card, I'm not going to lie, is again with the bunny set. But another FABULOUS new background, reminiscent of Van Gogh - I stamped in Picket Fence Distress ink (see what I did there?) on top of a galaxy background that was in my UFO pile. I used my infinity dies to cut a little earth, which I sponged with Picket Fence, and then watercolored my bunny, cut him with the matching dies and sat him down for little read under that starry sky. The reason I used Picket Fence Distress Ink is the way it sort of pools adds to the starry look - I love it so much.
Now guess what? Since it's the Picket Fence  birthday celebration this month, they've given me a gift certificate to give away! I have a $100 shopping spree for one of you. Here's what you need to do to be entered to win - leave me a comment telling me your favorite children's book!

I will announce the winner on the 21st!

All the products I've used are below, and you can see the rest of this amazing release here! The good news is - everything is 20% off so you can shop the whole release at a discount. Just click here and use code PFS20 at checkout! Have fun!

  2. Oh Lydia—these cards are fantastic!!! My favorite children’s book (short story) is The Ransom of Red Chief. Brings such memories as we read it over and over to our granddaughter! She would even say “that’s what kidnappers would do with me, isn’t it? They would return me!”

  3. LOVE these bunnies, and I neeeeeeeeeeeed that galaxy background!!!! My fave children's book is The Pokey Puppy. :-)

  4. These are all amazing! Just gorgeous.....and yes those bunnies are sweethearts! My very favorite chapter book to read to my third graders was Bunnicula (for real) by James and Rebecca Howe. My favorite picture book is King Bidgood's in the Bathtub by Audrey and Don Wood.....amazing illustrations!

  5. Children's books.... Winnie the Pooh, the Poky Little Puppy, the Giving Tree. They're still my favorites, whatever that says about me! :) Have you read The Whispering Rabbit? I think I picked that one up in college, but it is so sweet and sleepy.

  6. I read to my daughters 30+ years ago a book about Grandma Tildy and how she worked so hard and had no time to play. Can’t remember the name but my oldest daughter adored that book.

  7. There was a book called Olaf Reads that my dad used to read to me. It taught me that it was ok to make mistakes.

  8. Who would have thought a peacock. So cute!

  9. My favourite story book was and still is Winnie the Pooh. The illustrations and stories were just amazing as a child.

  10. The Golden Book of 365 Stories. Mom (or my Aunt when she babysat) used to read to me and my brothers. We loved it. I still have it.

  11. My favorite was the Dr. Suess book, "Green Eggs and Ham". I was given it by an Aunt and Uncle who we visited on vacation. I made my older brothers and sister read it to me all the way home (it was a looonng trip). Good memories!

  12. OMGosh these are all so adorable. Charlottes Web is my all time favorite childhood book. So yes, I love all the pig stamps. I also like the illustrations in the BFG.

  14. My favorite was Green Eggs and Ham. I think it was more that my Dad was funny reading it to me than the actual story, but that is the book I always think of when I think of children's books.

  15. Aw, those bunnies are adorable, and I love that stamped galaxy background. My favourite book was a book with stories and illustrations. I remember it had a picture and story about a small lamb that was discovering the world. When I learned how to write, I started writing out that story by hand.

  18. These are ALL fantastic cards Lydia. I especially like the 1st one and the last one., they are so dreamy and whimsical. I don't have one fave book from my youth as I was enthralled with ALL of the Beatrix Potter books, mostly because of her illustrations rather than the stories themselves. I would actually dream up my own storyline as I followed through the pages looking at her pics. (It must have been fun for my poor teachers trying to hold my attention???....Can you say day-dreamer? LOL)

I have three grandchildren who love books so it's been loads of fun re-visiting all the old favorites. My favorite book as a child was The Pokey little Puppy, which was one of the Golden Book collection.

  43. Love these cards and your beautiful coloring of them. My favorite is that gorgeous galaxy background and the bunny in front. As a former librarian, I find it hard to limit my choice to one book, so I'll go with my favorites from childhood, which was anything written by Beverly Cleary.

  56. All of your cards are so beautiful! My absolute favorite children's book is called The Snowy Day, by Ezra Jack Keats. I grew up in Wisconsin, and I could really connect to the charming story of a little boy who had a snow day, and spent it outside. The illustrations are my very favorite part, with bright, saturated colors in very simple shapes, as if they were created with a silk screen or a printing press! I love it!

  57. I love your two little bunnies holding hands on the stormy eve...Love these cards! I scanned the names of all the previous book titles and thought...love that one and that one etc...but hands down, for me...Winnie the Pooh. 66. How do you pick ONE favorite book!? I didn't find it until I was older, but Max Lucado's "You are Special" is one of my favorites now. In my dream world, I would be a children's librarian. But in my current world, I get to order books for my office and give them out to kids at their checkups. It's pretty great. Of course I had to order some of my older favorites - Corduroy, Berenstein Bears, Litte Critter. Goodnight Moon. So many great ones!

  75. I am not certain that I remember 1 specific book that was my favorite as a child...but have always loved reading and when I had my 4 I amassed quite a library! Without having to go through boxes I've set aside for "hopefully one day grandchildren " I know that one of my very favorite books was about a world with no color, everything was shades of gray, and then someone discovered red, but after painting everything red, it made all of the people angry, so back to the mixing pot...and blue was made...but it made everyone sad...then yellow -but it hurt everyone's eyes...accidentally the color pots were tipped over and all of the colors mixed! They were able to paint the world with ALL of the beautiful colors and everyone was happy! I for the life of me, cannot remember the name of that book..,and have had no luck with Google...will have to climb into the attic to dig it out ant some point! In the meantime, I absolutely love all of your projects...and my wish list has grown since this release!
