Ghosts & Hobo Cats Say Happy Halloween!!

My cats are hobo cats!! They used to fly around with a little bandana on a stick with their cans of tuna, walking the tracks, looking for a place to stay.. I had NO IDEA they hung out with GHOSTS!!

Spooky!!!
I love these little images. They are from a wonderful girl on Etsy - Niko Art. They are so whimsical and sweet. I thought maybe this wouldn't scare you too bad tonight.

I just colored them with colored pencils and added some Night & Day paper and ribbon from the dollar bin.

Hope you are having a sweet & spooky night!!

Oh, and in case you weren't here this time last year, here's a little trip down memory lane!!!

If it Doesn't Have to be White...

Or black, or green or whatever it's supposed to be.

You know how everyone brings gifts to weddings all wrapped in about 4 variations of the same paper. Off white/white, ornate patterns or stripes, silver bows - you know.

Well what if in the middle of that big pile of Macy's sameness, you plopped something wrapped in red and white polka dots? Tiffany blue with white birds?

It would be the design coup of the decade. You would end up on the Design Sponge site, or Swiss Miss or something.

So do it.

Make your next wedding card, um... HOT PINK, maybe, okay?
Stamps: For the Bride (retired) Ink: Craft White Paper: Sahara Sand, Basic Grey Indian Summer
Accessories
: Prima Flowers, self adhesive rhinestones, Chocolate Chip Satin Ribbon, Rubon

I don't know, it's just a thought.

Happy Friday, everyone. Loveyameanitbye

Balloon (girl) Tutorial

I confess. It was a hoax.

I was not actually in that balloon. I did not go zipping across the continental divide in a mylar balloon from Walgreens.

I just wanted a stamping reality TV Show!!

So I'm really sorry if you thought I was zipping through the sky in a piece of tinfoil and you were worried about me. I was safe in the attic with my Big Shot making you a card.

You're not mad at me are you??

But seriously - if you want to give me a stamping reality show, I'm available. I will not eat bugs or be someone's weird maid/nanny/wife or make out with someone by a pool with tacky colored lights. Actually I won't eat anything I don't want to and I probably won't do anything else I don't want to do. That's MY reality - how do you like that?? But I will stamp my little butt off for you.

Like I did for you today.

My friend and fabby downline, Angelique, came across an amazing blog she shared with me today, and it got me feeling all pink and foofy. This woman's work is like the best candy you've ever had!!

So I came home and tried something.

I ran some old Pale Plum scrap through my big shot with my fave die. Srsly. I know I say everything is my favorite because everything is, but I love this dang Bird and Leaves die!! Now I wanted to use it as a stencil, so I had to deal with the other pieces.

Good thing I have some leopard tape!

I just taped down the other pieces so that when I sponged I wouldn't have any stray sponging, and I got to work.

First, I cut a white Top Note. Then, I sponged Pretty in Pink and Chocolate Chip in the bird stencil.

Leaving the stencil in place, I stamped the big image from Fresh Cuts in chocolate chip over the whole bird. First, I did it with just the script part, but it wasn't defined enough - so I decided to include that leaf part for visual interest.

Next, I stamped over all that with Pretty in Pink, stamped off once, with the Fresh Cuts image.

Stamps: Fresh Cuts Ink: Chocolate Chip, Pretty in Pink Paper: Whisper White, Chocolate Chip, Patterned Paper (Basic Grey Indian Summer) Accessories: Rhinestone Brad, Rub On, Word Window Punch, Big Shot, Top Note Die, Birds & Leaves Die, Stampin' Sponge, Ribbon
All supplies Stampin' up! unless otherwise noted.

Foofy enough? I love pink and brown. I think they look edible!

I'm having a Google Reader Webinar Thursday night if you want to learn how to organize all the blogs you like and get rid of all those email subscriptions! Register - top right sidebar.

And if you haven't done so yet, please vote for Maddie & Splotchy's book in the Blurb Contest - each person can only vote one time, so it's a really well run contest. Plus, it's Maddie & Splotchy! They would appreciate it!

What are YOU guys up to? Leave me a story about what you've been doing while I was in the balloon. The best story wins a box of Sweet Treat Cups! How about that?? I miss you guys and I'd love to know what you've been doing to get yourself a reality show!!!

I Wrote a Book

It's weird how things converge sometimes. My sister is a member of the Pastel Society Of Austin, and she forwarded me an invitation for one of their meetings, where the guest speaker was a book designer. She was going to talk about self-publishing. I was interested. I went.

Her presentation was mostly about Blurb.com - her chosen self publishing site. I filed it away under someday.

However, I also subscribe to ModernCat, which is where I learned of a book contest, sponsored by Blurb. One of the three categories was pets. Put your hands together.

To enter the contest, you had to design, upload, publish and purchase a book. It was a great learning experience. Now I am in the contest.

I decided that the book should not really be about Maddie and Splotchy. It should be about why any of you even know about them. The sad truth is, you know them because some unknown person was unspeakably cruel. A difference of ten seconds and they might have been two out of millions of kitties and puppies who are dumped, neglected, abused and never seen by any of us. Thank God a sweet, sweet woman (thank you Amanda) did see them, didn't miss the window, and they are part of me now. But it can't remain unsaid that our culture needs to value and protect vulnerable things, because I believe the heart and soul of America does. And I'm certain that culture gets built one person at a time. So I decided just to say a little something about it.

So yes, it's a contest, and yes, you can vote for me and make me happy, but the message is this:

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. I hold that, the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man" -Mahatma Gandhi

The preview shows you just a few pages of the book, because unfortunately, each preview page shows up in search engines, including my photos, which are unprotected by watermark.

However, if anyone wants to purchase the book for a Christmas gift, I will donate $1 from each book sold on Blurb from now until December 31 to A Place to Bark, because you guys know how much I love my dear friend Bernie who, as much as anyone on this earth, understands compassion and kindness to the furries. And I know the book is really expensive, but that is because this is on-demand publishing - so they make each book when it's ordered instead of printing tons.

So you wanna see? If you like what you see, please cast a vote and leave a comment!! If you love it, buy one!

A Tale of Two Rescues
By Lydia B. Fiedler

Now, art.

I heard a joke on Twitter the other day and I'm dedicating this post to it. "I went to the doctor today and I'm senile but hey - at least I'm not senile."

Yeah, what he said.

Anyway, I totally forgot to post the projects I entered for the Artisan Awards at convention. Or maybe I did and I just forgot. There's really no way to know for sure, so I'm going to try to find them and post them. Where did I leave those things??? Oh, here's one..

Remember my technique of stamping a silhouette image and then coloring it with pencils?

Well that's what I did here. I stamped on kraft cardstock with Sahara Sand ink, and then colored with white, aqua and charcoal pencils. I also took micron pens and outlined the petals because you do lose some detail when you add pencil.

I know you are all very happy it is Friday, as am I. :)

Did you lose some time?

You know - you were driving down the road, you saw a bright light, and when you looked down at your Iphone you realized you lost 12 minutes? Well what happened during that 12 minutes, do you think? I've invited David Duchovny over to do a podcast about it - I haven't heard from him yet, but I'll let you know as soon as I do.
In the meantime, how about the Starving Artistamps New Release Blog Hop???

There's a small chance that you may have been probed by the creatures from...

Doodle Factory Final Frontier!
(insert creepy alien music)
In order to find out which creature probed you, you will need to visit all the stops on our hop. Oh, and also because someone is giving away a complete unmounted set of the new release for blog candy.

We are keeping the blog candy open for one day only (the aliens have to go back to their planets) so your chances of winning are even better! (blog hop ends October 21st, 11am PST). If you just can't wait to get your hands on the new Final Frontier set don't worry you can order it starting now and if you are our lucky winner we will let you substitute
another set of equal value instead!

If you have arrived here all by yourself and are just finding out about the blog hop please start at the beginning:

Lydia Fiedler You are here :)

Now if I've learned anything about aliens, I've learned that they love to do tricks, like juggling. It distracts you while they prep you for study in their cold, white operating rooms. This little guy, Dash, juggles moons, so I guess this image isn't to scale, heh heh. The beautiful background and moons are Noveau Chic DSP from Stampin' Up! I thought it looked very spacey.

Stamps: Doodle Factory Final Frontier Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black Paper: Noveau Chic & Whisper White (SU),
Accessories: Copics, Dimensionals
, rubon

Next, I thought I should show you where they come from so that you don't think they're all barbaric. Look at this fabby little city they live in! It looks all neat and organized and safe, yes? When they bring you there you should not be scared. It looks like everything you need will be there. I'm thinking the alien Starbucks will have some cool stuff. This card is cool - I bought a pad of Strathmore Watercolor Postcards - so the back of this is totally a postcard. How fun is that?Stamps: Doodle Factory Final Frontier Ink: India Ink Black, Soft Suede, Cool Caribbean, Pacific Point Blue, YoYo Yellow, Night of Navy Paper: Strathmore Watercolor Postcard Accessories: Aqua Painter, White Gel Pen,

Okay, now if you've ever wondered how aliens have babies, well DUH - they have girl aliens!!! Here's one. Who wouldn't want to have little alien babies with HER? I used some retired Stampin' Up! Fancy Fibers on the tag that EXACTLY matched my new Basic Grey Indian Summer DSP. This card is 4x4.

NOW - to my fave thing about many Doodle Factory sets - Irene gives you a large and small version of the characters. That makes it super easy for me to show you how much aliens miss each other when they're off probing humans like you.
Here's what the card looks like on the inside.

Look - I don't know how many other ways I can tell you they are coming, but they are coming. Wait - actually - they are already here!!

And finally, just because I don't want you to have any hard feelings, I do want you to know that the aliens DO come in peace. Here's proof!!! I love the paper that I stamped the globe on - it's Graphic 45 Communique, that my amazing friend at PaperGrace sent me. I stamped the earth and then just colored the continents with copics, and lifted color with my colorless blender pen. Cool, eh?
Stamps: Doodle Factory Final Frontier Paper: Night of Navy, Graphic 45 Communique Ink: Memento Basic Black
Accessories: Self Adhesive Rhinestones, White Gel Pen, Copics, Stampin Up! brads.

Well, here endeth your probe... I don't advise telling anyone about this...

Forget Spooky Nights...

How about spooky DAYS??

I came across this terrifying mushroom yesterday on my walk. LOOK how big it is!! I almost broke my ankle sprinting away after I took this picture because I'm pretty sure it's carnivorous. Plus, I swear I heard it hiss. *shudder*

I later found out it's called a Jack O'Lantern mushroom. How appropriate, given that it's almost Halloween!
So I thought I'd make you a spooky little card to go with it. In non traditional colors, just to make it spookier!

To make the raven medallion, I thought a little crackle would be nice. After crackling I rubbed Not Quite Navy ink in the cracks. And how about that rat border punch - SPOOKY! The color scheme is courtesy of the Noveau Chic paper I used - I haven't used Sage Shadow in a long time - I think it looks so cool with the grey and black.
Stamps: Graveyard Gala, Halloween Frights Ink: White Craft, Basic Black Paper: Noveau Chic, Basic Black, Sage Shadow
Accessories: Word Window Punch, 1.75" Circle Punch, Rat border punch, Organdy Ribbon, Crackle Glaze

All supplies (except rat border and glaze) Stampin' Up!

Hope you're not too scared by my mushroom to have a great Sunday!!

Fuzzy Wuzzy Was a Bear..

IT'S MAKE ME LAUGH MONDAY!! I know you thought I forgot, but I didn't! And I really should have posted this before work this morning so that you could make each other laugh all day because MAN - Mondays are hard!!

But, you guys stay up later than I do, so you can giggle at each other's comments until the wee hours if you wanna.

Anyway, what I have been giggling about it what pops into my head every time I play with this amazing flocked paper from the mini catalog... It's fuzzy, which is a word I can't hear without doing this..

Fuzzy Wuzzy
Was a bear
Fuzzy Wuzzy
Had no hair
Fuzzy Wuzzy
Wasn't fuzzy, was he?

BWAAHHHAA - it cracks me up EVERY TIME!! I know - I'm easily amused!!

Anyway, this card is a total case from my friend Marie, whom I adore completely. Her cards are so clean and crisp. So I had to borrow this fuzzy wuzzy one for my craft fair. The flocked paper is amazing and you MUST buy it immediately - it's the Christmas Cocoa DSP. Get it. Now.
Stamps: Teeny Tiny Wishes Paper: Kraft, Whisper White, Christmas Cocoa Ink: Real Red
Accessories: Ornament Punch, Top Note Die, Big Shot, Silver Elastic Cord
All Supplies Stampin' Up!

You gotta love something that quick and easy and pretty. Thanks Marie! And then, from my friend Lisa, of PaperGrace. (@papergrace on Twitter). An amazingly sweet woman who has been sooo generous to me, she sent me a complete surprise this week that was so good I almost died.It was two caramel apples from Ethel M. Chocolates. O M G. These are the best caramel apples I've ever had, and trust me, I've had some.

The most perfect caramel apples I've ever had. They both had the most amazing, chewy, buttery caramel in the world. One had peanuts and one had pecans. I actually can't pick which was better. You need to get your paws on these. It's fall, after all. Thanks Lisa - xoxoxoxo. You are too sweet to me.

Finally, for the chills of the week, in case you haven't seen this amazing video - it just disassembles me. Turn your speakers up. God Bless America!

I Like Words

I just do. I wonder if someone could grow a flower with text on it. Or something that looked like text. Crisp black and white little details. Would that not be cool? Can some botanist out there please get to work on that?

Until then, I give you a little card I made for an event I did Friday.Paper: Basic Black, Old Book Page Accessories: White Gel Pen, Oval Punch, Retired Flower Punch, Pretties Kit
(All Supplies Stampin' Up!)

This is one of my many two-minute cards. Just punch and scribble and you're done.

The day was so fun - it was for Commemorative Brands - the people who make class rings, and employer of my buddy Nicole (@nicole2112 on Twitter) who was so crazy sweet to invite me! It was a really neat event with super nice people.. It was their employee picnic, so they had a big BBQ, and had lots of fun games, vendors (like me) and a pumpkin carving contest. The entries were amazing! Here are three of them. The first is freaking adorable - look at the wings!! HAHAH - I laughed so hard when I saw this little guy.
Next, a Michael Jackson tribute. My pic is a little blurry but the glittery part is his glove, and he's in that classic pulling his hat down pose from Billie Jean. AWESOME. The entire inside of the pumpkin was glittery too. This was really super out of the box and cool.
And last, but not least - the winner -this AMAZING peacock pumpkin! She pushed out some of the feathers a bit and the paint job was amazing. His little feeler dealie boppers on top of his head are adorable! The lady that won with this was a really cool marketing lady (yay for marketing people! :) ) who is clearly super crafty.Anyway, a good time was had by all, and the vendor next to me was really really nice. Thanks Nicole!!!

WAKE UP!!! IT'S FRIDAY!

Wake up!! It's Friday!!! Or Finally Friday, as it's known to many of you. Unlike what you see this photo, Splotchy is not much of a waker upper cat. He cries when my alarm goes off. I may have told you this. He has been so upset about the getting up this week that he's actually resorted to smothering me with his belly. He is very careful to cover my nose and my mouth at the same time.

Anyway, another goodie for the craft fair.. Simple simple card that I copied from Teneale Williams, one of my fave stampers EVER. Her card was much more beautiful and layered and embellished. I just stole the inside of her card for the outside of mine.
Love me some blue and black, I do. :) There's glitter in the center of each flower, which of course the laws of photography prevent you from seeing.

This is a two minute card for your busy life :)

Happy Friday. Tomorrow is Caturday and I can't wait! Tonight, studio cleaning, tomorrow, playing with new stamps!

Can You Tell?

I wonder if all of you can tell by my cards now what is happening with me. Whenever I have 80 squillion deadlines, I always retreat to what I think is really my basic style - simple cards, lots of white, a little black, an icy blue.

I have a craft fair Friday that I'm really excited about and another one in November so I need to focus on making duplicatable cards.

I saw a card like this on the Hero Arts Blog and had to steal the basic idea because it's so.. wintery. Simple.
Stamps: Branch Out Paper: Whisper White Ink: Basic Black, Tempting Turquoise
Accessories: Glue Pad, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, Sponge, Ovals Die, Big Shot, Swiss Dots Embossing Folder

It's hard to see, but I used glitter all over the white part at the bottom. Much prettier IRL.

As are these inseparable little creatures.

Get ILL Soon!!

Bwaha!! Come on, you know you've had this thought. I kind of hoped this lady at Joann's would bust out with the Swine Flu right before my eyes the other day. She was SO MEAN to me. I was asking her about the Ott Lights and I could swear that when I was saying "Do you know if there's a display out so I can see how big the base is?" that to her it sounded like "Hey - I have a monkey - will you change its diaper?" because she kept treating me like an insane lobotomized leper. I didn't like it. I wanted her to get just a little cough or something to teach her a lesson. I wish I HAD had a poopy monkey I could have flung at her.

Anyway, you remember Auntie Princess? Well she asked us stampy types the other day if someone made "Get Ill Soon" cards. I'm SURE she had someone in mind when she asked it. Hilarious. Anyway, as things like this do, it evolved into a blog hop challenge, and so here you are, with your swine flu mask, checking out some smart alecky Get Ill Soon cards.

I found myself wishing that I had little germ stamps. I looked through all my monster stamps and even my shape stamps trying to see if I could make some scary bacteria and viruses out of them but I couldn't find anything. So I decided to go the old fashioned route and just do a drawing for the blog hop.

I busted out my Stampin' Up! watercolor paper and used a Copic Multiliner for the drawing. These are amazing because they are pigment pens, and are water and copic proof, so you can color them with anything. I love them so much.

A few times, Splotchy stepped in to give me his artistic input. He's so helpful.
With his help, I finally ended up with a very scary collection of germs on a flesh colored background - mmmwwwaaahhhaaaa!
I drew a little border around them and mounted them on Basic Black Cardstock, edged with some fun ribbon I got in the dollar bin. Apparently it has magical powers because then Splotchy fell asleep on it.
Splotchy would like to direct you to the next stop on the blog hop but he's still sleeping. So I'll tell you. You will be traveling to Canada to visit my friend Sue Farrant - better bring a jacket!!

Have fun, don't get sick and have a great Sunday!

You Don't Have to Have All the Answers...

You don't, you know.

For example, Pi. What is it and why do we care about something with an unnecessarily large decimal footprint?

Sometimes the question is stupid and makes you giggle and get kicked out of chemistry. I got kicked out of a lot of things for giggling in my life. And you know what? I don't care. I didn't giggle because I had something to say - I giggled because I had a giggle. I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to suppress those.
All Supplies (except flower) Stampin' Up!
Stamps: Personalized Stamp Ink: Summer Sun, Cameo Coral, Basic Black Paper: Kaleidascope DSP, Whisper White Accessories: 1" circle punch, Bird with Branch & Flowers Die, Big Shot, Shimmer Paint, Sponge Dauber, corner rounder punch, Stampin Sponge, Prima

I made this card for the World Card Making Day Challenge #1 on Splitcoast.

I used Beate's Shimmer Resist technique, because the challenge was to make a quote the focal point of the card, so I wanted the bird image to take a back seat. I photographed it from the side so you could see the shimmer.

I made the bird by running some CS through the Big Shot with the Bird with Leaves & Flowers die. Then I used the negative space cardstock as a stencil and dabbed the Shimmer Paint on through that.

After it was dry - Hey, Beate I don't like to wait for stuff :) - I sponged ink around it. She's so brilliant - it resists ink beautifully. And to be truthful, it doesn't take that long to dry.

The quote I had made by Stampin' Up! with one of the personalized stamps after my mom sent me that quote.

Happy World Cardmaking Day! What are you doing to celebrate this special Caturday?

Are Angels Made of Chicken?

I don't know!!! I don't think we're supposed to find out till we see em.

But my angel today is made out of chicken!!

Stamps: Chicken Up on You by Firecracker Designs
All other supplies: Stampin' up! - Autumn Harvest DSP, Heart to Heart Punch, Linen Thread, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, Two way Glue, Final Press Embossing Folder, Big Shot, Rub On

A chicken wing, to be exact. After I looked at Pamela's chicken tail for a while I decided it looked like a foofy angel wing and thought I'd do a little out of the box chicken arranging...

I made this card for the Embellish Magazine December challenge. We had to use brown, kraft, red, turquoise and twine. I really like the combo!

You can't really see it in the pic but she's all glittery!

I used the chicken legs for her dress, and the tail for her wing.

Mmm - buffalo angel wings... :D - Just kidding!

TGIF! :) My class is Saturday - are you coming?
