I purchased some by accident from Costco, via Instacart.
So that you can avoid it forever, the brand name is Scott's. Nowhere on the packaging did it say THIS TOILET PAPER SHOULD ONLY BE PURCHASED BY PRISONS OR AIRPORTS.
There was no way for me to know that you could just breeze into a store and accidentally buy prison toilet paper.
My Instacart shopper must have thought "Oh, this lady has a friend doing hard time, and she's sending him extra TP - how sweet."
I am not amused at the giant, Costco size package of this miserable excuse for toilet paper currently in my garage. I briefly considered doing that technique where you put wet toilet paper onto a stamp for that sculpted look, but it was too triggering, seeing as how the erroneous purchase was just too recent to be amusing.
So instead, I just made a few cards.
The first one is a simple card - I just stamped the floral image (this is a free with purchase set) all over white cardstock, and then colored in the background with my Lettuce marker. I added some iridescent vellum, using my invisible vellum adhesive and the Hugs die from this bundle. I added some sequins as well.
Then - even though Easter is nearly upon us, I had to make an Easter card with these adorable bunnies and the Wreath Builder. I kept them pastel, which I never do, but they are so cute all pale. The paper is from this package. It's nice thin, layering paper, but still 40 times as thick as my toilet paper. This set does come with matching dies.
Finally - my favorite! This set is a builder set, so you can choose different ears and body positions for your build-a-dog! I chose one floppy ear and one sticky-uppy ear and I think this dog is adorable. It looks like my little golden retreiver I had as a child, so that is how I colored her. I used Sea Glass ink and my Life Changing Blender brush to make the sky, and then I used Copics to make some grass. The sentiments are builders too, which is fun. The card base is Sea Glass too.
Please heed my PSA and never buy that toilet paper - you will be scarred for life! Also - if anyone needs toilet paper - I have a bunch extra :). Loveyeameanitbye.

Your cards are amazing! And you know you can return practically anything - to Costco - right?
ReplyDeleteYour toilet paper story made me tear up. I do hope you won't be using it. But on a happier note, that card with the green background is EVERYTHING. I saw it on FB and couldn't wait to come over and and comment.
ReplyDeleteSo much CUTE here!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so honored to be in a PSA on prison toilet paper! These cards are amazing Lydia! Love you so much! Thank you for sharing your talent with me! "sticky-uppy ear" Hahahahahaha
ReplyDelete😂😂😂
DeleteI may regret this...but I grew up using this exact tp AND still use it today. I am sorry for your hardship.
ReplyDeleteI do love your cards!! The pup is cute!!
I'm glad to hear that someone else knows that technique of putting layers of damp toilet paper down onto a deeply etched rubber stamp (I added the extra touch of dampening it with laundry starch in water - this tells you how long ago it was because I don't think you can even buy starch you dissolve in water any more). Frankly, this is the only thing Scott's toilet paper is good for. Hey, maybe our Prez would buy it off you to toss to people during the next natural disaster!
ReplyDeletePossibly my favorite blog post ever! 😂😂😂
ReplyDeleteThey are all gorgeous! The sentiment on the pup card is so cute! My sister would love it! The first one is really stunning with the lettuce colored bg and the middle is super cute with the fun wreath builder!
ReplyDeleteThe cards you created because of the tp fiasco are adorable. But, I hate to tell you, my hubs loves this brand of tp. lolol
ReplyDeleteLOL! Too late, I walked into a Costco in December and bought a case. I usually check the ply but was too busy comparing how many sq. ft was in it compared to the more expensive brand. I'm too cheap to throw it out so I only use it in the master bath (where guests won't have to use it). I have 15 rolls left and I'm counting on you to figure out a way to use it... maybe layering it up and using alcohol inks and the gel press? Do you think it would be too tacky to donate it to a food shelf or a homeless shelter? I have a Black Mouth Cur... love the Puppies Galore card... it looks a lot like Tigger!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad this went from crappy to happy! ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat cards, Lydia! I love the grassy scene you made! And sentiment combo I hadn't thought of!
ReplyDeleteGreat cards, Lydia (what's new?!)! I particularly love the green one - such a gorgeous design.
ReplyDeleteOh no. I knew about those from my childhood. They were always on TV with "1000 sheets to the roll" with them rolling one all over town. My mom always said it was more like 250 because you had to use so much. And it is rough on the skin. I was surprised when I saw it at Costco. I am a Charmin baby all the way....though I use Kirkland paper towels which I go through about 4x faster. That is a very funny note-airport TP.
ReplyDeleteI fear for the neighbors this Halloween in your area. Or have a party with kids and let them throw them around as a game. They would probably love you for that once in a lifetime authorized throw.
I esp like the green card. The BANG of contrast is so eye catching.
OMG, Scott's TP! My great, great aunt and uncle ALWAYS had Scott's TP (we visited a lot). The paper wrapper on the individual rolls was always more substantial than the actual product, probably softer too. I feel your pain :) Gorgeous, sweet and fun cards! The green is so stunning and such a lovely design.
ReplyDelete🤣🤣🤣 I looked you up today to give your Arkon code and link to a friend. Thanks for the bonus laugh! When I lived in Paraguay, all the TP was single ply. One brand, that had an enraged bull on the packaging, looked and felt like it had wood chips in it. No wonder the bull was upset--that should've been my first clue!🤣 Love the reverse coloring!!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby bought that same TP a couple of months ago and that's the last time I send him to buy TP!
ReplyDeleteWhat angered me even more was I sent him with the specific brand name I like, ply, and where it is stocked in the dang store!!! Glad to know I'm not alone in my shameful TP Hades!
BTW, your cards are beautiful!
Beautiful cards Lydia!! From the lettuce green one, very striking, to the bunny one, so cute til the little puppy card, so adorable! We used Scott's for many years because that is actually what our septic guy advised us to use. But my husband managed to find a tp that is worse. He does the shopping and always buys the cheapest of everything, he came home with it & I don't think it even had a name. I kept calling it gas station tp and told him never to buy that one again!
ReplyDeleteDon't hate me, but Scotts is all I buy! Its easy on the septic system. Never thought I'd have a need to use it in crafting! LOL
