It's a word we are all so used to, that people don't typically think of it as a contraction, but it is. Apparently we, despite our easy-going, slow-talking natures, are in way too much of a hurry to spend a ridiculous amount of time saying "how do you do," so we shorten it to "howdy."
LOOK AT ALL THAT TIME I JUST SAVED!
I can spend that time listening to exactly HOW YOU DO!
Isn't that nice?
We're nice people, Texans.
You know who else is nice? Fleurette Bloom from Inkon3.
I *met* Fleurette (over the phone) after falling hard in love with her magical Fadeout Ink. It turns out we have a ton in common. We are the same age, and she has a daughter named Lidia.
We hit it off instantly, and will be going as a team to Junkie Fest to teach classes on the wonders of no-line watercolor with her ink. Hopefully I will see some of you there! There's a large Texas contingent going - some of whom I believe are even on my flight to the great white north of Minnesota, where I have not visited since 1992!
Anyway, since we are the same age, we have the same graphic favorites in our psyches, like the marvelous puffy letters we used to doodle in our notebooks in the (redacted decade) when we were in school.
When I saw that she had brought that style to life in an alphabet die set, I knew it had to be mine.
The card base here is my fave bright white linen cardstock. I blended pink, orange, yellow and blue oxide inks across the front, and then I cut the letters from both white and black cardstock and glued them together, offset before adding them to my card. So cute and simple. (I pay a little extra to have them cut and round the corners on the linen cardstock when I buy it.)

I'm going to start the World Watercolor Month challenge on Sunday. Are you going to play along? This is the challenge that started my work in a sketchbook and I love it so much - I always learn a ton working on these prompts. I'll share some on Instagram.
So how about a giveaway? I accidentally ordered duplicates of the following inks from Gina K Designs: Key Lime, Tranquil Teal, Sea Glass, Plum Punch, Lucky Clover, Slate, Coral Reef and Tangerine Twist. You can click through to see the colors.Yes - I ordered doubles of EIGHT ink pads. I'm awesome like that. But now I can share her awesome ink with you - if you've never tried it, you'll love it, I promise.
So do you want to win one of these beautiful inks? You just need to do two things: 1) Leave me a comment with your weekend plans, and 2) Sign up for my RAK database! That's it! (No need to sign up if you have already done so.)
I will choose eight winners and announce them on my next blog post!
Loveyameanitbye.
My weekend plans include a craft day with friends, a date night movie with my husband, church, and donating cards to a local dog shelter.
ReplyDeleteI love the alphabet dies set!! We are heading to Illinois today...and spending time with my family!!
ReplyDeleteI love this card!!! (But then I love everything you do!!!)
ReplyDeleteI don't believe I have signed up for your RAK yet so I did just now. I love receiving your gorgeous cards! :) My daughter is spending the night tonight with a friend, then taking her friend to an all day youth group movie day on Saturday so that means I am going to have a lot of alone time tomorrow! I am thinking maybe I can finish off my VSN cards this weekend. I am trying to do them all this time around. Not sure if that will actually happen but it's a goal! Then church on Sunday. That is my weekend plans! Your card is sooo cute!!! I am in the market for some coordinating inks. Trying to decide whose to buy. I also want to purchase the Inkon 3 soon!! You always inspire me!
ReplyDeleteWeekend plans - going to Tyler to visit my very best friend in the whole wide world and her Other, who is MY Other's fishin' buddy. Her Other was recently diagnosed with cancer and has been through a lot in the last few weeks - most of it really bad. So, we're hoping to spend some QT with them and maybe lift their spirits. Off to sign up for the RAK database now - whatever that is! I would love to try some Gina K inks - I've heard great things about them.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what my weekend will bring. No big plans, other than trying to stay cool!
ReplyDeleteI plan on keeping cool inside this weekend. Working on some cards and preparing for camping over July 4th.
ReplyDeleteSuper sweet card! I am also from the puffy letter generation and your card brings back memories. We'll be spending the week "up north" (Minnesotan for time at the cabin). Enjoy your trip, we're heating up real nice and hot here.
ReplyDeleteWe are heading to the coast for some vitamin sea! Hope you have a great one!
ReplyDeleteMy weekend is simple. I'm making art and watching sports, then singing 3 services at church. We have the astounding Eric Metaxas in the pulpit. That should be incredibly interesting! I'm going to join you in the watercoloring challenge. I need practice!
ReplyDelete1) This weekend I will be working. Oh, the joys of retail.
ReplyDelete2) Done!
I have not tried Gina K. designs ink, yet. Thanks for sharing your extras !😉
Also, what is Junkie Fest? I’m in Minnesota and feel that I should know about this. Your no-line watercoloting is always beautiful!
50rh wedding party on Saturday, church and relaxing on Sunday!
ReplyDeleteSaturday I'm setting up at a local flea market... trying to downsize lots of stuff. What doesn't sell will be promptly donated to our local Goodwill. Hope to just relax a bit on Sunday!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lydia for all your wonderful inspiration!
Dad and a friend are coming to visit and to take our extra car home with them (I just got a new Lightning Blue Ecosport).
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Texas...does that count ...
ReplyDeleteI am a teacher on summer vacay, and have missed some serious inky play these last few weeks of school ending. Also, due to the extreme heat forecast upon us, I intend to hole up inside my home and play with inks and paper! Surely, (you are Lydia, not Shirley) there will be some kind of water play. The GKD ink colors sound luscious and I thank you for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteTry to stay cool in this Texas heat!
ReplyDeleteHowdy! I am so glad that I'm not the only one who orders doubles (Or even triples lol). Our community is having a little 4th of July celebration this evening, and we are releasing butterflies!! I'm so excited about the butterflies ☺
ReplyDeleteHi Lydia! I agree - Texans are nice. That was my favorite thing when we lived there. Now we have a TX address, but it's just our mail service since we're a traveling show. This weekend we're going hiking in a Montana state park. Our first visit to this state and I'm excited to see it. If I can sneak in some card making, I will do that, too. Signed up for a virtual watercolor card class, but that's not until next week. And my fav word I learned in Texas? Tump!
ReplyDeleteMy weekend plans include ordering this white linen paper. I have been wanting some for a very long time!! So, thanks for sharing this paper with us all. Then painting and card making it is...
ReplyDeleteMy plans for the weekend are simply to float in my daughter's pool with an adult beverage most of the weekend (she & her family are on vacation, so I have use of the pool for 10 days without her 4 boys). Want to join me???
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this card! I own none of the supplies but I may try to recreate something sort of similar with what I do own :) My plans for the weekend all involve spending time in my basement craft room, since the temperature will be at least 84° with 70% or greater humidity, so it feels like 100° or more, in Michigan!
ReplyDeleteYou are an incredibly talented artist. Not only on paper but of the language as well. You are laugh out loud funny. Thanks for sharing your talents with us.
ReplyDeleteI too remember making those fat letters in the unnamed decade and also using a heart to dot our lower case i's. I have no plans for the weekend yet, but the watercolor challenge sounds like fun.
ReplyDeleteHowdy! I plan to watch nascar and join the #WorldWatercolorMonth on Sunday. Just received my order of Holbein wc. May not post to Instagram everyday but often, as I’m just beginning this journey with tube watercolors. Would love to try some of Gina K’s ink. Thanks for inspiring and enabling. :)
ReplyDeletePlans for my weekend are stamping, watching some Netflix with hubby, stamping, reading, church, stamping, and reading some more!!
ReplyDeleteSusan aka Soozie4Him on SCS

I have NEVER tried Gina K inks, they are on my list of tries! My weekend plans are I just woke up after working last night, work OT Sunday, get packages mailed on way to work, off Monday so will babysit Bella, work OT on Tuesday then Wednesday is my Monday! Sounds AWESOME right I was never a good bubble letter doodler so I just stuck to puffy stickers with google eyes on my peechee and trapper keeper!
ReplyDeleteHowdy!
ReplyDeleteThis weekend, unfortunately, we're having boiling hot temperatures and high winds. Perfect fire conditions...and we already have fires going all over the state. So we're staying close to home and watching lots of baseball.
Think it's really lovely that your willing to share your bounty with your readers. Incidentally, you know you aren't the only one who mistakenly orders duplicates, don't you?
Just going to hang out at home this weekend; we are having such hot, extremely humid weather right now - a big thunderstorm this afternoon left the air feeling like a steam bath. So it is a good weekend just to putter around inside the house and maybe get some books ready to donate to the local book fair and clean up some of the clutter in the craft room.
ReplyDeleteMy weekend includes painting - sadly on walls, not cards - and garden work, sigh. Maybe net weekend....
ReplyDeleteWeekend plans... preparing for a visit from my younger son who just graduated college and has opted to stay in his apartment rather than move back with Mom and Dad :-(
ReplyDeleteON the other hand I now have a bedroom that could become craft room heaven....
Going to "support" my local brick and mortar stamp store on Saturday...church and family on Sunday! Love your blog, Lydia!♥
ReplyDeleteCrafty time, yay! Also seeing some friends I don't get to see often enough. Would like to try Gina K inks, have heard lots of good things, but haven't taken the plunge. It's a slippery slope, don't cha know! Hope that you enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteI went to the grad party of one of my former students yesterday (I teach 2nd grade) and today I'm going to continue inventory-ing (is that a word?) my stamp sets with Evernote. Not too strenuous work with this heat wave (using the A/C AND a fan)!!! Yikes!! I had the privilege of meeting Gina K a few summers ago. I stopped by her Village Paper & Ink on the way to a scrapbooking retreat. She is one of the loveliest human beings I've ever met. You're absolutely right about her inks! They are FABULOUS!
ReplyDeleteGardening and cleaning house. I'm actually anxious to get to it. You are so nice. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThis weekend is BQ time with some fun friends and making a birthday card for my youngest
ReplyDeletegranddaughter who is turning 9. Why do they grow up so fast?
got the grands for a stay during carnival days in our area. :) Better late than never!
ReplyDeleteI have fond memories of the bubble letters so I am guessing we are similar in age. And I agre that Texans are nice. I have a good friend from TX who actually lives up here in MN! My past weekend turned into nothing like I planned so hoping to get thongs done next weekend. I have a sewing project I am working on. It is the first thing I think I have made with a zipper since Jr High so I am slowly working on it. I hope it gets better with practice! I am looking forward to meeting you gals at Junkie Fest. I am taking your class! Make sure you bring summer clothing. It is not the great white north in summer here!
ReplyDeleteWhat a funny post! Your Howdy card is adorable! In Italian language we don't use to contracted lots of words like you! Often we use American/English acronyms. : D
ReplyDeleteMy plans for the next weekend are the same of the last one: spend two days to the beach with my partner and some of my friends, having barbecues and playing board games.
