Remember this tutorial for faux leather from way back in the day?  Well I have an update for you today with a paper bag and - A HAIR PRODUCT. I saw the hair product used by one of my fave YouTube channels run by a French woman who makes junk journals, and I was wondering if there was a difference between glycerin and what feels like silicone in this hair smoother, but is listed as hydrolized silk. It truly makes the paper stretchy like leather and feels VERY different from the glycerin version. The paper grocery bag makes it more malleable too. So I decided to make an aged, leather treasure map with the new Hero Arts kit, the fabulous map stamp and some Hero Wax in gold and black. You'll see how I made it in the video below, but here's a closeup of the antiqued map - I used Root Beer ink and gloss medium to finish it.

The kit has a sea theme this month and oh my GOSH is this mermaid beautiful!!

I took the little fishy from the kit, and the sentiment from this set and popped them onto my faux leather treasure map. The fish and the background of the sentiment (from this add-on set) are colored with OLO markers, and I shaded the fish with colored pencils for dimension.

I used the same sentiment over the map image stamped with Contour Ink, tore around it and shaded the edges with Charcoal Ink. I stamped the boat inside the bottle from this set and cut it out with the matching dies. The beautiful dark sea background I used twice because I loved the chalkboard look of it. What I did was took my Unicorn ink pad and swiped it down this gorgeous dark sea bold print to get a streaky look, and stamped that on Pitch Black Cardstock. I stamped it two or three times, but stop before it gets fully inked - you want that ghostly look. I used the little pearls from the kit as well.

The background here is the same dark sea stamp and the same technique, to give a spooky look to my spooky mermaid from the main kit, coloring inspired by the grindylows in Harry Potter! The sentiment is from the kit too, embossed in white.

There's a beautiful new stencil out this month that looks like a tidal pool - it's super delicate so be sure and use Pixie Spray and be gentle. I ink blended a background with Splash and Pool Party reactive inks, then leaving the stencil in place, I sprayed it with water and blotted it with a paper towel to create the water. Over that, also in Pool Party, I stamped the images from this mermaid stamp set, coloring in the bubbles and the plant with a white gel pen. Then I added the (I think) laughing shark from this bundle and the sentiment. He's cute and doesn't look scary at all.

These are all the fun, summery, oceany add-ons.

Here is the faux leather map video! Giveaway info is below.
