DUDE. Everyone downplays just how SPOOKY mermaids are, but they are spooky! I remember my dad reading me lots of fairytales and books involving mermaids, and they delight my spooky loving heart.

They're not just beautiful creatures, they are super tricksy and deadly. They deserve both fear and respect!

To me, the depiction of grindylows in Harry Potter are the closest to the real power dynamic of those bewitching mermaids, so I took my color inspiration from that for my sneak peek today of this month's beautiful, sea-themed Hero Arts kit

I gave her glowing, aqua skin with my OLO markers, and shimmering, fiery hair.

The background is a spooky technique I'll tell you about on Monday - MUAHAHAHAHA. You'll have to wait.

But isn't she beautiful? I love her so very much. The illustrator for this image does the most beautiful female characters - mythical and otherwise. She is no exception.

See you tomorrow with a new video and tons of cards.

Loveyameanitbye.

  1. The coloring on the mermaid is beautiful. The background really makes her pop. Can't wait to see how you did it.

  2. Absolutely! Mermaids ARE spooky! Popular culture has made them kid friendly and relatable. I grew up in a fishing community so I certainly heard my share of seafaring stories about mermaids from the deep. Your creation is mystical and ethereal and awesome. I love your background! Can't wait to learn more.
