But it also is a technique I use all the time with colored pencils. My lean layer is my first layer - alcohol markers. The fat layer is the oil in the pencils I color with. Most pencils have an oil and/or wax component to them, and this is the reason you want to preserve the order you use them in - you definitely don't want to use alcohol markers over something with an oil or wax component, because it will break that medium down and leach that medium onto your markers.
Now eons ago, I popped some watercolored scraps I had painted with Art Print Brown liquid watercolor into my UFO bin, because they looked like suede or leather to me and I knew someday they'd make a great background, and today is that day.
I stamped the main image in Fadeout Ink, and then very quickly colored it with Copics - no blending or shading at all. Then I followed that with the pencil work you'll see in the video with Polychromos. Just a few colors, and the majority of the time spent on the cup - the flowers have minimal detail and went really quickly.
Then I broke my rule and die cut the colored image. I usually stamp and die cut an image BEFORE coloring so that it doesn't shift on me after I've done all that work. But I took a risk this time with the matching die and it worked fine. Otherwise I'd be too busy crying to write this post. So here's how the card came together - and the video is below!
Today is my friend Jen's business birthday! Reverse Confetti is 8 years old! So head over to see what's new and wish them a happy birthday - it's no small feat to keep a stamp company strong for 8 years!
Here are the supplies I used today - come back for a birthday wish for Jen!
