I finally got to have a socially distanced visit with my mom yesterday! We visited from the sidewalk with her in the doorway - and in Texas, that will only cost you $800 worth of air conditioning! Sorry mom! :) It was really nice to see a real person again. I think the only person I've talked to outside my house for any period of time was my neighbor from the other side of the street when I was on a walk. So odd. But as my mom said, people need to stop whining about what they can't do, and start working on what they can do.
Amen.
One thing I can do is experiment with that perfect lemon bar recipe I shared, and so today, I'll bring you grapefruit bars. But first, we stamp.
Today's Feature Friday assignment was a color focus - to take two colors from the new Concord & 9th color line and make each color the focus of a project. I actually struggled to choose my two, because one of my favorite things about this ink line is actually the neutrals - Mushroom and Dove are beautiful, nuanced colors, but then my calling towards bright splashy colors was fighting with that urge. At the end of the day I LITERALLY did a coin toss and it landed on bright colors, so I chose Poppy & Sprout. Poppy is a super warm, orangey red - having grown up in a college town where every frigging thing including everyone's cars and clothing was maroon - I'm slightly averse to cool reds. I've just seen too much hahah.
So I took a card front and did direct to paper to coat it with Poppy Ink. Then I sprayed the whole thing with water. I used these clean and simple floral dies for the rest, and the sentiment is from this bundle.
For my next color, Sprout, I die cut the leaves from this same die set from watercolor paper and then watercolored them with Sprout and Poppy Reinkers. To show what a great match they are for the cardstock, I cut the matching cardstock with this bundle's dies for a sentiment.
And remember - you can always shop by color bundles here.

Okay - on to the grapefruit bars!
So these are the perfect lemon bars (scroll to the bottom) - and I do mean perfect!
But if you are lucky enough to have Ruby Red grapefruits around, juice them and make the substitution of the juice and zest. Instead of the 4 extra tsp. of juice in the recipe, I used 2 tsp. cream of tartar, but you can do either.
They have a lighter, more floral and delicate taste than the lemon bars. Not as grapefruit dominant as you'd think. Very delicious and refreshing little treat. 5 stars. :)
Hope you have a good weekend lined up. I have assorted drudgery only. But I'll do it with a good attitude. :) My coupon codes are below - some are only good until the end of July!
Loveyameanitbye.

So glad you got to visit with your mom. I have things a bit better living out near Death Valley. We have been socially distanced for the last 35 years. (lol).
ReplyDeleteI too, love a wonderful lemon bar. Can't wait to try yours.
Stay well and healthy, friend
Beautiful cards! I love having matching ink and cardstock. Your mom is one smart cookie!
