Bigfoot Paradigm Shift!

Bigfoot is one of my favorite stories, and reminiscent of a world that still had a sense of humor.

My sister, at some point in the late 1900s made up a companion that few people are observant enough to search for, but that we've found evidence of many, many times - Tinyfoot. We look for signs of Tinyfoot on every hike and adventure. The truth is out there y'all.

If something or someone doesn't believe in you - do you cease to exist? I think not. 

But it's worth thinking about.

I won't spend time on the background I created because you'll be seeing that in a video on Monday. But it's extremely fun, simple, and three dimensional. Because the bottom of the card is more 3D than the top of the card, I adhered this hilarious Bigfoot, cut out with his matching dies, with these nifty foam squares - just one on his torso on the blue, flat section of the card. That way I could support the part resting on the flat portion while matching the bottom of the image at the same height because of the 3D background. I colored him on Copics with this subtly sparkly marker paper - it's so fun.

Faux Tole Painting

I have to be in the right mood to do colored pencil work, and I was in that mood yesterday.  I had this beautiful Lily of the Valley stamp, and I wanted to get the look of tole painting without painting it. 

So I went straight to see some examples on Martha Stewart's website and what I figured out that I was drawn to about them was two things - the evidence of the brush, and the bright highlights. 

The cool thing about using pencils on texture paper is that it already gives that soft, brushes look that you see in tole painting. But what it doesn't give you is super bright highlights. So I thought I'd try to add those in with a white gel pen - and I ended up loving it! And bonus - it's mixed media because I'm using two or more mediums. It's my mission in life to get people to understand that that is at the heart of mixed media. There's not just one look - it's not grunge, steampunk or any one thing. It just means mixing mediums! 

The stamp set has two different sizes of these beautiful blooms - I used the larger one! The sentiment is from the same stamp set. The pencils I used were Polychromos, and I get the best results with colored pencil on the pastel paper I used. This stamp set does have matching dies.
