I can't even imagine how fun it must be to celebrate your small business birthday! Today I am cheering on my friend Mary Ann as her company celebrates its second birthday.
The MISTI team is together with her team today, so you are going to see a LOT of fun stuff. But I decided to go with a not-so-classic cake, and I'm not going to lie - I cracked myself up the ENTIRE time I was making this. I'll tell you how I did it below - but behold, my mashup of this adorable T-Rex set and her new birthday cake image!
HA! Isn't that hilarious? This is what I did. I stamped the little T-Rex on masking paper and then cut the image apart at the line where he's sitting in the cup. Then I put the mask for just him on the card front and stamped the cake image over the top of the mask, so that left a little space just for him.
Next, I put the cup part of the mask in place over the cake image and stamped him. Then I colored the whole thing with Graph-It markers and cackled! The stencil I used with Rocky Slope Ink - and I didn't mask the image - I just got close to it with my Life Changing Blender Brushes. I printed the sentiment.

For non-crafty types, there might not be seasonal fatigue, but for me - Christmas/winter crafting is the longest "season" and so I am always ready for something completely different in December. So last month, I broke the holiday streak with a zombie. I'm sure you're not surprised.
I'm bringing you a card inspired by my friend and brother from another mother - Daniel West. Daniel and I share an undying love for all things spooky, and most especially - ZOMBIES. We were so gleeful when the Graveyard HeroScape debuted, we could hardly stand it. So I'm taking this very sweet and not even a little creepy card by Daniel and using it as my inspiration for today's card!
First, I cut two pieces of cardstock with the Jungle Frame Fancy Die - one in black and one in green, like Daniel did on his card. Then I ink blended the background with Key Lime Fizz Reactive ink, adding Grape Juice ink around the edges to add some shadow and spookiness. Then I used the Cloudy Sky Scene dies to cut a piece of Duralar to use as a stencil, and I lightly brushed Orchid ink in the center of the ink blended panel.
To stamp the zombie and cobblestones, I put them in my MISTI and inked them up in Soft Granite, but stamped them off once on a scrap to make the ink paler. I did the same with the sentiment from the Graveyard Heroscape. The lighter ink enhances the perspective of the darkest objects being the closest ones to the viewer. Which is a good thing, since the thing that's farther away is a zombie!
Many thanks to my FIEND, Daniel for the endless inspiration he generously shares. Enjoy the video - click HERE if you don't see the player below.

It's the first Monday of the new year - WHEE! After last year, I'm ready for anything!
Mostly I'm ready for spring. It's been an odd weather year and my garden doesn't know what to do with itself. It alternates between parched, drowned and cold. Time to get some tomatoes going! Which reminds me, it's time to order seeds!
But I digress. Today the new Hero kit is out and it's looking forward to spring too, so I have a video for you with the main kit today - using an art journal collage style to create a vintage card background, so stay tuned for that.
The kit itself is BEE-utiful! The large flowers are so beautiful for coloring. I have a card with them coming later this month. I'm not sure what type of flower that is but it sure looks like my dogwood in the backyard, which I love. The chonky bees are really big, as you'll see on my card and I'm 100% in love with that honeycomb die.
I cut a piece of Duralar with the die and then blended Dandelion and Caramel inks over it for a background for chonky bee #1. This bee was left over from the vintage card I did the collage background video for below. The sentiment is from the kit.
Now I love art journaling because you have the opportunity to make sensory cards - textured surfaces that are fun to look at, but also fun to run your hand over in your journal. I'm convinced this is how texture pastes, etc. were born, because I spend almost as much time touching my textured art journal pages as I do making them! And you'll see in the video, creating these is done with my built in paintbrushes - my fingers! I had a piece of ephemera that was postage AND bee themed, so I started with that, and used the postage stamp infinity dies to frame my bee and sentiment focal point to tie in with that theme. I'm used to the "plaid" style of drywall tape, and love using it, but I found a new patterned tape that I love at Lowe's - I cut that with my circle infinity dies and added those for texture. I used the honeycomb die from the kit with translucent embossing paste to create a frame for the letter writing girl on the ephemera, and used Dandelion, Caramel and Cup o' Joe inks for the rest. The postage stamp is cut with the new Honeycomb fancy die and then I used the stencil I created with the kit honeycomb die to ink blend on that as well. The final accents were made with turquoise paint, a silicone paintbrush and a flat stencil brush.

And for one lucky commenter, there will be a $50 gift card waiting! So leave me a comment with your thoughts on bees, and then see what other inspiration is out there with this kit!
