Hey peeps! I'm back with two opposite cards - one social distancing and one NOT social distancing!
It's Crafty Friends day, and this month we are supporting our friend Melissa Hewitt, with Honey Bee stamps. Another dear friend of mine works for the company too, and I love them both. Soft hearted and sweet, and they both love a large iced tea as much as I do. I'm missing them a lot right now, because in the last few weeks I would have been at a retreat with them, and we would have been going out for tea on the regular. Sigh.
So I thought I'd make an appropriate card for missing them. What's super cool about the set I'm using and another one I'll show you is that - and this is crazy - HALF of all of the proceeds of these cute, relevant sets is going to be donated to Feeding America. I don't know if you've seen some of the lines at food banks, but it's tragic what is happening, so if you want to and have the ability to shop, you can help both a small business and your neighbor. I really hope we just keep some of the things we are doing during this odd time when life returns to normal.
In the meantime, I'm going to keep sending cards. I look forward to the mail more than ever these days - you?
On the first card, I started with a kraft base, and added this GORGEOUS watercolor print paper that I bought in March and have sort of been saving for the right card, and this was it. The sort of watery background just matches what I imagine is happening in this little bunny's brain. Like a rainy day, almost. But stunning colors.
Then I stamped, masked and modified the bunny a bit - in the stamp set he's holding a sign, but look 2020 - if 2020 had a sign, it's toilet paper, so I stamped and die cut that. Then I cut out his little paws - I love that these have dies, because the set is made for customizing, like I did. So clever. Melissa's stamps have always had this feature - her sentiments that are builders, sets like Blah Bunny that's a builder - at the end of the day, builder sets are my jam. I just feel creatively free to make a card my own with builders. It's actually a separate category in my Airtable, because it's such an important part of the way I design. But I'm rambling...
I Copic colored the bunny with cool grey, and colored the TP with warm grey for contrast, and glued all the pieces together. The rest was easy - I stamped a bunch of sentiments from this sentiment stamp set in Obsidian that are eerily accurate!
I added these gorgeous Honey Bee embellishments - my fave embellishments are iridescent because they take on the colors around them so beautifully. It's just the easiest way to be matchy matchy.
Love those bunnies.
Now the second set that benefits Feeding America is this adorable set. The thing I hear over and over again is that my friends miss hugs the most. Just that spontaneous, I'm so glad to see you hug of faraway friends on a trip is probably something most of us wish we'd appreciated a bit more in 2019!
I have an idea for this set I hope to bring to you soon! The sentiments are spot on. It does have matching dies, and they, too are builders.
I have two very special friends who are about to welcome babies - my friend Kelly Marie is due any moment, and my friend Susan is anxiously awaiting the arrival of her newest grandbaby. So I decided to make a baby card, which I haven't done in a while. This adorable critter set was perfect. I colored the image with Karin Markers during a Color & Connect Zoom (join us!), and added the same embellishments. I did my unexpected color technique on these - you can see a video on that HERE.

Builder sets are pretty amazing, and you manage to make all the sets builders ;)
ReplyDeleteI have also been mailing cards a whole lot more. But mostly to my mom in a nursing home.
Such adorable cards and for a great cause, I also LOVE that background paper, it's FAB
ReplyDeleteOh my word those are sweet as can be!
ReplyDeleteI bought the bunny set, even used it a few times - but didn't realize that it was a builder set! You'd think I would have noticed it, since I have Mae the Mouse and I love that about her! And now I need the blah blah sentiments! Your cards are great, and yes, I love receiving cards in the mail! I have all of the ones I have received over the past couple of months lined up on my mantle - it makes me so happy to see them there every day.
ReplyDeleteI love my Hang In There stamp & die set, I've made several cards already. And so easy to color!
ReplyDeleteThe bunny and toilet paper card is adorable! So true for the state we are in! Crazy times!
ReplyDeleteSimply adorable cards! Images! Thank you for the coupon codes also!
ReplyDeleteWho could have imagined we would be having so much fun with a toilet paper roll... I think this is so adorable and it speaks volumes about our time! Love it.
ReplyDeleteLove them both!
