With 2019 In The Rearview - Seasons Givings Year 8 Blog Hop & Giveaway

Ahh - I can't believe its time for my favorite blog hop of the year already!

It's my favorite because it's my chance to thank you for supporting me this year. Thank you for your comments, your video views, for purchasing through my links, for sending me cards, and for encouraging me!

I'm very grateful to each and every one of you. I read every single comment on my blog, and it's so uplifting and inspiring, and keeps me feeling creative and energized, so thank you.

The way we give back to our readers for this event is through individual giveaways at each stop on the blog hop, and I have a really awesome one for one lucky commenter, and two other individual stamp set prizes! Details below!

You are going to see a lot of crafty inspiration on tonight's blog hop, so I thought I'd take a different approach and see if I could give you a gift that might help you with one of your New Year's Resolutions! Are you resolved to be more organized in this new year of a new decade?

Well I sat down and documented how I store and catalog my stamps, dies and stencils, which is something I finally crossed off my list in 2019 and I thought I'd share all that with you, with a video tutorial on how I use the software I use to store and retrieve my stamps while I'm designing.

I design cards by starting with a stamp image. I then search my entire inventory by keyword for the absolute perfect sentiment. Before I had this system, I was really under-utilizing all the diverse images and sentiments I have! This system absolutely increases the value of my crafty collection, because I have access to every sentiment, every image, every word die, every stencil pattern with just a few keystrokes. To find what I'm looking for by manually flipping through all my stamp sets would take HOURS, and now it just takes me seconds! The small amount of work on the front end is well worth the productivity gains.

First, I wanted something that matched the way I store my stamps completely. I store my stamps, dies and stencils in only three sizes of pockets, and two bins. I store the small stamps together, alphabetically by manufacturer, and within manufacturer, alphabetically.

Large stamps are together,  and filed the same way. Stencils are stored in the same pockets and bins I use for large stamps.

Dies are stored in a medium pocket, alphabetically within manufacturer, in two rows in the top of a Raskog cart.

Here's what I use - it's pretty simple.

On to the online organization! I tried ALL the apps prior to this one and none were that Goldilocks "just right" like this one is.

I use the my beloved Airtable as a starting point. You can get a free Airtable account at this link. I customized it completely to my needs, so you'll see what I did in the video, but you can customize yours to your unique needs! Here's a screenshot. You'll see more in the video, but you can see I have a stamp set photo, link, all the sentiments in the set, themes and a link to the matching dies. I love it so much! It's available as a phone app and a desktop app - I type better on a real keyboard, so I put the stamp set names in on my phone and add the sentiments, etc. on my computer

So here's the video - stay tuned below for how you can win more than $300 worth of brand new stamps & dies from me, and the list of the other people participating in the hop and their prizes!

Fun, right? And easy once you see it all set up.

Before I go, I wanted to share a few of my life favorites I've added to My Favorite Things lists here.

  • A nurse from Kaiser in California shared this lifechanging adhesive remover spray with us this year. If you have been in the hospital and had a lot of things stuck all over you and had the skin irritation that comes with removing them - this is a lifesaver, and can prevent infection by preserving your skin - you spray it on and it instantly releases adhesive.
  • This amazing hair dryer/styling tool. I decided to treat myself with a more expensive (really expensive) version for my birthday. It worked for two seconds and died. The replacement they sent me worked for two seconds and died. I did not try for a third and just got my money back. This new one at 1/10th the price is FANTASTIC. There's also a travel case for it.
  • I shared this earlier, but if there was a fan club for this ratcheting paper towel holder, I'd be the president. Truly a one-handed paper towel dispenser and heavy duty and awesome.
Be sure and check out my other lists, especially if you like true crime podcasts or food, or crafty things

Want to know about my prize? I have a giant bundle of brand new stamps and dies for you! I have two stamp + die bundles, three standalone dies and NINE stamp sets - all from some of my favorite companies. But because I love surprises, I'm going to let my winner be surprised when it arrives. I'll only give you a peek at one of the stamp sets, which is one of my favorites. I brought this story over from the true crime community into the stamping community in 2018 with a little hashtag on myInstagram and this story on my blog (please read - it will touch your heart), and this year Unity brought it to life in a stamp set, and it makes me so happy. It's a story I think about daily. So this is one of the stamp sets I'm including.

In order to be eligible for my prize, all you have to do is leave me a comment with your favorite moment from 2019! I'll post the winner on my blog on January 6th, so get your comments in before then!

So as you head into the next decade, enjoy some inspiration from my friends, and some awesome separate giveaways at each hop!

  4. I use Airtable too and I LOVE it. My favorite moment in 2919 was when my two-year-old granddaughter told her mom she was going to live with me. I must be a pretty cool grandma if a two-year-old wanted to live with me!!

  5. I'm in awe of your organizational skills - I don't even want to guess how long cataloging all your stamps and dies took! My favorite moment of 2019 was my father turning 100 (and still going pretty strong).

My favorite moment was when we finally received the key to our home. My husband and I with our granddaughter, unlocked the door to everything we wished for, for 10 years. I’m so grateful!

  7. Thank you so much for sharing all of the information for getting organized, as that is one of my biggest New Years Resolutions! I am actually going to attempt to set up our bonus room as my very own craft studio...but it is going to be a huge challenge! I think that my favorite moment was actually Christmas morning when my husband got me a new laptop to replace one I have shared with my kids for quite a few years...it finally was just so slow that I have hardly been able to use it at all for the past 2 years!

  8. I always love reading your blog Lydia, because you offer everything from craft projects and reviews, to recipes, to musings on life. My favorite moment from 2019 was celebrating my little grandson's 1st birthday in December. I was there for his birth, and was the very first human being to touch him...which is very humbling. He brings us joy every single day!

  9. I loved your video. This year I put all my stamps on One Note, which is ok but certainly not perfect. Now I must decide if it’s worth moving to your app/software. I sure love the look of it.

My favorite moment of 2019 was having all 5 of my Grandchildren together with me at one time. As they grow and their lives be one busier and more scattered these opportunities happen less and less. Patti

  10. I love the stamp set, Letter for Henry. I looked and right now it is on SALE (hear that in Dana's voice) . I can't imagine what a favorite moment is because I feel like at my age, m9st moments are favorites. LOL. I have enjoyed most of 2019 and actually looking forward to what adventures 2020 will bring. Maybe one of my favorites was my trip to Ireland with my sister Bonnie and we sat in some fancy hotel in Dublin drinking a "real Irish Coffee" .. sweet time. and then right up there was dinner at Jack Allens Restaurant with all the gang.. great to visit with Iliana, Dana, Deborah, and so many others. the Stamping Community truly is full of awesome, kind, friendly, caring people. Thank y9u Lydia for the mentoringship you have given me. Gail

As for how you are “working your way through your house” your purging method is right up my alley. I am a minimalist at heart and have been purging little by little for a while now. I am definitely going to try your “2 table” method. THAT a will work!
Lastly, OMG Henry’s story didn’t only touch my heart, it BROKE my heart. God bless dear Henry!

I am lucky to have had so many fun moments this year with my family. I think my favorite thing isn't a big event, it's those times that I laugh so hard with my two teenage daughters (usually over something really silly) that we are crying. :)

  95. My Favorite moment of 2019 was watching our 70 year old family cabin be torn down. It was my saddest but also most memorable moment. 2020 our family will spend our first summer in our newly built cabin.

  96. Thanks Lydia for all of your wonderful organizing tips as well as your beautifully written blog posts (I so enjoy reading your blog) :-) My favorite moment in 2019 was when we found out that my hubby's pet scan results were clear (just found out in early Dec). After suffering with an incurable blood cancer for over 4 years, having his bladder and prostate removed in June, spending all summer recuperating, we are thrilled that he will not have to undergo any surgery or additional chemo for a while, Praise the Lord!! Hugs and Happy New Year, sweet friend and thanks for the chance to win!

  100. One of my most memorable moments this year was when I was at work monitoring the sea lion tunnel. (I work at a zoo). It was in the winter and a very slow day. A young couple came in with a young child (he appeared to be about 15 months old, but I suspect he may have been older since he had a serious illness.) They said this was the first time they had been able to spend some normal time with their child outside of the hospital. Anyway, a couple of our younger sea lions were out and socializing with the guests. Our most social sea lion spent a long time playing with the mother and the baby was watching, smiling, and giggling the whole time. You could see how much it meant to them to have this time together as a family and I got to talk to them for a quiet awhile. It was wonderful to see them having a good time and being able to have fun and forget their troubles for a time. I saw them a couple more times through out the summer and we recognized each other from that time we spent together.

  117. LOL, I love your organizational post, thanks for sharing it! I am currently in the middle of switching my organizing style for my stamp sets and have just moved to the storage pockets in containers style that you have. I was just trying to work out my labeling and retrieval system, and was thinking about an excel document with keywords and data, I do love a good spreadsheet like you demonstrate!
To answer your question, my favourite moment would be catching a sunset on a drive home that seemed to last for an eternity.

  121. My favorite recent moment was on New Year's Eve. I watched my grandchildrens' faces as we lit fireworks. Amazing!! At this point in my crafting career (more than 20 years), I'm daunted by the amount of work I'd need to do to get to the level of organization that you have. If only this had been available when I first started.

  126. My favorite moment(s) of the year were during a fabulous trip to Disney World with my daughter and her family. Watching the delight of my grandchildren hour after hour was priceless---no photo could ever capture it! THANK YOU for the video. I spent last night searching the internet for just this kind of software. One of my main goals this year is to get my supplies inventoried. I've been stamping for 25+ years and although I regularly purge, I also continue to buy. Nothing I found last night came close to what you've shown here! Happy New Year!

  127. Oh, I love that stamp set! My favorite moment from 2019 is the 6 week trip my husband and i took in out Vintage Cruiser out west to celebrate our retirement. Granted it was a lengthy "moment" and the first of many more to come!

And thanks for your inspiration, love ya!

  139. I LOVE reading about how crafters stay organized. Your system is very similar to mine! I just got it into place in the past few months, and it makes finding everything so much easier and stamping more fun! I’m honestly not sure of which moment in 2019 was my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Oooofff! Your inventory system is amazing, but a bit daunting. I work in Ecommerce Marketing and using Airtable resembles my work day too much. I could envision setting this up for my stamps, dies, etc when I retire. Thanks for the inspiration! I'll bookmark this post for future use!

I could say my favorite moment in 2019 was meeting you at JF19 - which was very cool, but (additionally) since I am on the mind set of organizing still being inspired by your video - memorable accomplishments for me in 2019 were swatching my inks (it's not more computer work!) Swatch decks really has been a great reference I've pulled out frequently since I put them together!

Looking forward to the videos you post for Creativation - I always look forward to them! And of course hope to see you again in MPLS at JF20!

  141. I am going to come back later and revisit your video regarding AirTable. Sounds like a huge time saver! What a beautiful stamp set inspired by a bittersweet story. My favorite moment of 2019 was when my daughter told me she wanted to do something with her life that wasn't all about her. (there is a lot behind this that I won't go into here :) ) If it wasn't that this was such a big year in our family one other moment would have trumped all the others. I won't forget my first hug from you! 2019 really was rather spectacular!

I remember when the Unity stamp was released, but didn't know the story behind it, so I'm glad you shared it! Some of my fave moments of 2019 were at a 6 day Girl Scouts camp. I really enjoy interacting with youths and mentoring them to give of their best. It was a blast, but the sleeping on the ground is far more challenging when you're past 40.

  198. A very timely post for me as I begin the task of unpacking the 38 million boxes of craft supplies I moved to our new home. I swore as I packed the boxes before we moved that as I unpacked each box, I would catalog what I have, to reduce (if not eliminate) duplicate purchases. I had once tried to catalog my stamps and I did pretty well at it until I bought new stuff and forgot to add them, and I didn't think about adding info about matching dies or punches. This is so helpful - thank you, thank you, thank you!
