Cabinet of Curiousities + Giveaway

BOO!!

Did I scare you?

I have some spooky fun for you today, so I just wanted you to get your mind right right away. I wish I could bring you into a room like the one you start the Tower of Terror ride in to really set the mood, but you'll just have to imagine it.

It's kit day at Hero Arts, and this month's kit has the coolest theme - it's a DIY cabinet of curiousities!

It comes with a giant set of images of both the outside of the cabinet, the handles and labels, as well as the images sized to fit the little window, as well as the amazing die that cuts out all the doors.

I decided to stamp the images on the outside of the cabinet in Unicorn ink on the woodgrain paper that's included in the kit. The items inside I stamped in Morning Mist - setting multiple images up at once on the MISTI for both the outside and the inside. I selected a few images to stamp in Electro Pop ink so they would, well, POP. Then I used a Polychromos pencil to add shading to those four images. You don't have to make this adorable cabinet Halloween themed of course - there are plenty of non-Halloween images in the set, but I could not resist!

Now, here's the really scary part - when I was all done carefully coloring the images, I realized I had stamped them upside down! I DON'T SCARE EASILY! So my drawers open down instead of up, so you're welcome - you can use this die in either orientation! :) But you might want to actually pay attention to what you're doing.

So cute and fun. It would also make a fun matching game for kids, or an advent calendar card. I also love the botanical and ocean themed images.

Here's what the full kit looks like - look at the little bee charms!! And the bonus word dies! Fan freaking tastic. Kit value is $76.49, but it's only $34.99.

Before I move out of spooky mode, I had to mask and stamp these little potions from this set. I filled each jar using these teeny makeup brushes and Electro Pop Ink for a neon glow. The set is a builder set so you can put other things in the empty jar images if you want - I just put potion in them. I colored the corks and the reflections with Copic markers. I hand drew the line they are sitting on with a multiliner. I used a fun fineliner I'll be talking about tomorrow for the veins in the eyeballs.
Then I did a terrible job following a BEAUTIFUL Copic tutorial by Elaine Hughes for a galaxy background in my crystal ball for this next card. In the end, I ended up liking it, but of course it's not nearly as beautiful as hers.

This adorable little fortune telling kitty I stamped and masked and then stamped the crystal ball over it to make her look like she's in front. I even added a little pink onto her so it looks like the ball is glowing. The stars I made with my new fave detail white pen. The sentiment is from the same set.

I wanted to make a ouija card with this set, but I ran out of time. Definitely my favorite from this release - that cat is adorable. This set has matching dies
Then, I went just a LITTLE crazy with this new color layering moth set. Maybe a LOT crazy, because I love it! Again, with the Electro Pop Inks - I am addicted! I cut a circle with infinity dies in a black card panel to make it look like a moon or a light and stamped the sentiment in the opening directly on the card base. Then I stamped the moth and cut it with the matching dies and glued it part way over the opening. I LOVE THIS MOTH. I know some people are freaked out by moths, but I love them - so bumbly and sweet. We don't see too many of the big ones around here.
I said I went crazy, right? I could not stop stamping this moth in these neon colors, so I made three more CAS cards with this little guy. First with mostly Blaring Blue, with Hello Yellow and Poppin' Pink.
I love the sentiments in this set too - all encouraging. Finally, because I loved the combo above, I used the same colors but changed it up.
And before I go, there's a super fun set that makes GREAT one-marker cards. Each image is highlighted inside a geometric shape - you can just color that shape and let the image pop!

I think this might be my first wishbone stamp too - so cute. This set does have matching dies. I chose a sunny yellow for a CAS card.

I had set out to color the flowers in this image a teal, but after I colored the background, I liked it in black and white so I left it. Any card where you can use just a single marker is all right by me.

See info on the giveaway below!

Finally - I could not resist this beautiful spiderweb die! I paired it with a black glitter paper spider from this set of dies, and the die from the main kit, on an ink blended background!

Two new things I will be watercoloring soon are two stunning sets of dies. First, the nautilus.

And of course, if you love the add-ons like I do, you can get them in a bundle for a discount!

LOVE that beautiful cling background at the end.

And finally, as we launch this kit, our hearts are heavy with the news out of the Bahamas, and our thoughts are with the East Coast of the United States as we all hope and pray the hurricane stays out to sea. For each September kit sold, $1 will be donated to help those impacted by the devastation and displacement caused by Hurricane Dorian.
