Coffee With Warhol

I guess March is the month for trying new things for me this year! Either that or I did a lot of retail therapy over the holidays.

I don't really have to admit to that if it's the case. Stop interrogating me!

But I do have the second of three new medium experiments this month for you today, and I had fun with the markers in today's post. My third will be on the 30th, so stay tuned - I love that one too!

All three of my new mediums are water-soluble, because that's what I love the most.

Today's experiment is with the Arteza Real Brush Pens. These are water-soluble markers that come in sets - I used the 24 set for today's card, but there's a 12, a 48 and a 96. I know - contain your surprise that I don't have the 96. Maybe my full set syndrome is dying down in my old age. (Not.)

This particular set has what I wanted for my card today though - and that was some primary brights, as well as a bright green and orange.

That's right - I'm channeling Warhol today - one of my favorite design staples, as you can see here and here.

I took those brightly colored markers, and just outlined the coffee cups, and then used water to fade them out to a glow around each cup, alternating the colors so no like colors were next to each other. Harder than it looks, as you'll see in my video. I'm not a cardmaker who plans designs - I just sit down and make stuff - but in this case, a little planning wouldn't have hurt. :) But it worked out fine in the end. Coffee, anyone?

These are very easy to blend, so this made for a quick and easy card - I had originally thought I'd color the inside of the cups, but I am happy that I decided on the outsides instead - to me, it really makes the cups pop more to have those white, sort of grunge details stand out.

I added the vellum from an old Hero Arts kit with my favorite, truly invisible vellum adhesive, and added the smile die cut on top.
