Masking Layered Florals + Armadillo Defense Update!

You guys! I'm so excited about my ADS - Armadillo Defense System! It's day three, and this morning when I was watering, what did I see? An armadillo hole RIGHT up next to the ADS, but all the area covered by the ADS and my baby plants were SAFE. And I'm talking about the ones I pinned straight into the ground. The enclosures were safe too - but those are a LOT more work putting together than just pinning the grids into the ground, so I'm going to give it five stars. And I LOVE that it's really invisible - you can't even see it. I also bought a modular compost system but it's not here yet.

Today at lunch we did the backbreaking work of moving all the potted plants back to their places - they were on the porch to survive stupid Mara (the ice storm). I took the opportunity to repot most of them - for some reason thyme and mint just eat dirt like crazy.

My friend Dana sent me a TikTok from a landscaper with a great trick last week so I did it and I'm really happy with it. She said to fill up your pots with water bottles etc. with the caps on to take up space in the pots - that you don't need to fill all that space with dirt. She also said to buy the 3.6 cubic foot squares of this growing medium - it's inexpensive and light. She adds fertilizer to that - but fertilizer kills herbs, so I just mixed the original potting soil back in with the medium to provide nutrients. AND I used scraps of the ADS that I had cut down to fit some of my potted plants over the drain holes, added these clay balls, then the water bottles, growing medium, potting soil and my plants I was repotting. They're always so happy after repotting. I shook all the compacted soil off their roots before repotting them.

So needless to say, my back is tired, but it's supposed to rain tomorrow and we needed to get it all done before that. I really hope it does rain - the difference between rainwater and hose water on plants is remarkable if you've never noticed.

SO anyway, I have a floral card for you today with my favorite thing - masking! There are some fun little layering flowers in the basket set that I wanted to make a little rainbow border with and I am tickled by how easy it is! For one thing - it's three flowers repeated, so you only have to cut three masks - and not the whole flower, just the right hand side. So it's very quick masking. I stamped the outline first and then the solid stamp. On the left, right and center flowers, I shifted the solid stamp down just a bit so I got a white highlight - I love that look! The other ones I lined up exactly - so you can do either.

Ended up being a really fun clean & simple card. The sentiments are modular - so those are two separate stamps.
