Do you have stamp styles that you always buy, no matter what?

For me, there's one I can't resist, because it's the exact style that was in fashion when I bought my very first Hero Arts stamp - which was my first stamp - in my teens, and that's the linocut or woodcut style of image. I remember in particular the celestial linocut style imagery - the suns and moons - to me it brings on big fits of nostalgia for the excitement of learning to stamp. And because it's a timeless style, it has staying power.

This month's Hero kit has that style, and an exciting development - masking dies! The dies cut right up to the edge of the images so that they can be masked and used with the backgrounds in the set.

I have a video for you below on these cards - it's a simple inking technique that lets you distinguish between background and foreground images that are actually stamped with the same ink pad - on the left, Indigo and on the right - Red Royal.

Here's what the full kit looks like - so cute. The ombre ink pad is perfect for those backgrounds.

I took that sweet round background and turned it into an ornament with that little poinsettia image. First I stamped it in Rose Madder, and then did the rock 'n roll technique around the edges with Crimson ink. I added little dots of glue in the center and some gold glitter. Oh how black and white make me happy!

Here's the card for the sneak peek you got on Friday! Owl be darned if this isn't just the cutest!

It's a one layer card because of the amazing masking dies in the kit. I stamped him first in black, used the masking dies and masking paper to cover him up, then stamped the branch. I used the masking die for that to mask it too - see how the berries are white still? Then I stamped the round background on top of all of that and added a sentiment and these enamel dots

So are you ready for the video? Enjoy! Click here if you don't see the player below.

  2. That snowman card was so cute ! Wasn’t expecting him to pop as much as he did when you removed the backing paper. Glad his little arm made it. Thanks for sharing 😊

  6. I watched the video now and have to say that we share a sense of humor (and a sense of impending doom at the thought of ripping off the poor little snowman's arm!!) -- I love the technique you shared. Thank you!! I will try that! That's a great way to get layers of the same hue.

  10. Oh this is SO much fun! I'm going to have to try it. I've done it before, but it always ends up with the halo around the image. So it's good to know these are made NOT to do that.
