Behind You All the Way

I bookmarked one of Splitcoast's technique challenges a few weeks ago, because it was so danged cute I knew I'd have to come back to it.

Our Try a New Technique challenge is every Monday, and I love it so much - there's always something fun to learn, and this challenge was no exception.

I'd done part of this technique before, but not the way she did it. I loved how she illuminated the images. You can see the challenge and her post here - go to post #1.

So I decided to use the critters from We Must Celebrate for my attempt at this. I've been seeing them everywhere lately, but not like this. The sentiment from the set, which I embossed in white on black cardstock and punched with the triple banner punch - is PERFECT for the scene, since it looks like the animals have their backs to us.

I cut and masked the earth with the largest of the Hero Arts Circle Infinity Dies and masking paper, and punched a moon with this punch, also from masking paper. You'll see this process and the sponging in the video below.

I filled in the images with a black copic and fine sharpies, and then highlighted with a white gel pen.

Just a fun, different way to use line-art images.

Then, on my team call Sunday, I demonstrated this for them on Facebook live, this time with Magical Day. I had done this galaxy background during the Daily Marker coloring event, and I just stamped the little wizard, colored him in, and highlighted him. After that was done, I used a white Polychromos pencil to create a little glow around him, since the background is so dark. I positioned him so that it looked like a star I had already added was in his hand.

  3. Oh my gosh!! I LOVE this card and technique! When I'm using the clear mount or cling stamps I can't see through, I put a piece of acetate over the card and stamp it. It helps me get the image where I want it to be ( I'm not good a lining up or layering stamps so this helps me). Love the tip for making shadows. One question, do you get credit for videos watched on your website or should we go to YouTube to watch them?

    1. Thank you Linda!! And views count here, so thank you for asking - no need to go to YouTube unless you want to watch it in HD.
