VIDEO: Junk Journal Cover + Giveaway

Aaah - I'm in my mixed media happy place today! I made these projects for the new Hero Arts Summer Catalog back in February and have had to keep them under wraps until today, so I'm excited to show you these and the video of the process.

You'll see this in the video, but I used Umber & Sky paints, Gold Glimmer Metallic ink (splatters) and these rub-on waxes with the Chain Link Die and the Locks Dies. The cover is made out of this heavyweight chipboard.

On the back of the journal and on this matching card, I also added drywall tape (the only place I've found this is Lowe's and it isn't branded) and on the card I used this stamp set for the sentiment.

I made a second card/journal combo as well. I started by stamping the Cobblestone Background. Then I used this alphabet stencil and Hero Paste to create the phrase Make Art. When that was dry, I rubbed on Just Rust ink, and used both the Sky paint and gold glimmer ink through the matching Cobblestone stencil. I rubbed the edges with the glimmer ink and splattered it as well.

I repeated the process on this kraft journal - I had bought this bulk pack of them for a retreat I had, so you might be able to find them in a smaller package or just split a package with friends. It's a nice size - I take some of my true crime notes in these because they lay so flat and don't take up much space.

  4. Cool stuff! I have the feeling if I got waxes I would start rubbing it on things all over my house to improve them and "add interest," as they say. I'm not seeing the link for your journal-making class - can you help me out?
