Tips for Adding Detail to Small Images

I have a little walkthrough for you today of some tips I use when I'm working with small images, and I still want them to have fun details and dimension. This is a sneaky peeky of the new Hero Kit! This image I cut out of a full background stamp image that is this incredible - a full 6x6 city neighborhood background.

So these images individually are fairly small, but that doesn't mean they can't have a lot of details!

Here are my tips.

1) Cut your images out carefully - take your time and use both a craft knife - I love this teeny one the best - and then use a dark grey or black marker to go around all the cut edges to eliminate white edges. 

2) Do base coloring with alcohol markers. I prefer these fineliner ones the best for detailed images. (Coupon code below).

3) Using a fineliner dark grey marker to create dimension around gables, under windows, around tree edges etc. Simple coloring only - don't worry about blending it out. 

4) Using a white paint pen - I used a fine point pen - add dots or dashes for highlights.

5) Layer color - for example, the trees and the grass are the same green as the trees. But after coloring the grass, I added a yellow layer to differentiate it but still keep it harmonious.

I laid this piece across an opening cut with a Circle Infinity Die for max contrast.
