VIDEO: Simple Watercolor Bees

I've learned a lot about native bees in the last two years, as I've spent a lot more time in my garden.

When a lot people talk about saving bees, the imagery is always bumblebees or honeybees. 

But in Central Texas, it's our little native bees that are our primary pollinators. The ones I see the most are blue, and about the size of a fly. They are solitary bees, and so pretty. They live in little holes - little studio apartments. 

It pains me when I see people using weed & feed, or spraying for mosquitos, because that kills our bees instantly. It's also really bad for humans. I don't get the whole better living through poison philosophy.

I'm hosting a challenge or two for Falliday Fest at Splitcoast this week. Falliday Fest is a week of challenges, combined with a tutorial blitz - there will be SIX new tutorials this week. The first one is here - and it's SO cute - you can make ornaments out of your old wood stamp blocks! 

My first challenge highlights our newest weekly challenge on the site - Watercolor Wednesday. I am amazed at what the challenge hosts have done with this challenge - each week is a new skill building tutorial for watercolor that's totally approachable and fun. So I asked in my challenge for everyone to pick one of the tutorials and try it. I chose this challenge, which was watercolor bees! 

I painted my very chubby bees with Daniel Smith watercolor on cold press watercolor paper, and used this sentiment set for a nice clean & simple card. I have a video for you below.
