VIDEO: Easy Translucent Sparkle, Dark Humor + Giveaway

There has been a bit of squeeing from this 70s child over the nostalgic Magical Forest kit this month. These images bring back lots of memories of the fabric, the clothing, and the books of my youth - especially the mushrooms, which I doodled all over every denim 3 ring binder I had in school.

I remember this one piece of fabric my mom made into an outfit for either me or my sister - I can't remember - that was a bright, happy yellow with those iconic red and white mushrooms on it. I can't remember any of my teachers' names from elementary school with the exception of one, but man I can remember every detail of that fabric. Funny how our brains work.

So the only thing more magical than a beautiful, watercolored mushroom with the dies from the main kit, is a SPARKLY watercolored mushroom from the main kit! So today's video will show you a really easy way to get neat, sparkly watercolored die cuts. The background of this card is stamped with the botanical images from the kit in embossing ink, and then this script stamp on top of that. The sentiment is from the main kit

The most important thing about this technique is the heat resistant adhesive sheets! SO fun and easy and I did forget to point out that they are heat resistant in the video - and not all adhesive sheets are, so I can only vouch for this technique with what I used

Here's what the full kit looks like - the washi tape is amazeballs.

The little fairies are so sweet! I had to make a little glowing fairy card. I ink blended Pool Party and Purple Galaxy on a card panel, being sure to leave a little glow. Then I stamped and MASKED the images and ink blended the edges of those to match the background and die cut them and built my scene, after splattering the background with both water and white ink.

Now, my cards take a brief, dark turn - muahahahah! Fairy tales are all so dark, in an effort to keep kids safe in a dangerous world, and some of that darkness is present in this awesome Little Red Riding Hood stamp set with the "I miss you grandma" sentiment. I'm glad one of the illustrators shares my twisted sense of humor!

I always have found it odd that a lot of fairy tales painted the forest and not the village as the danger for children to avoid. I believe the opposite, but no one consulted me!

This spectacular layering branches die is the frame for my little fairy tale scene. I cut the branches from watercolor paper, and then painted them with Deep Ocean watercolor (the lighter layer) and Deep Ocean and Black watercolor mixed for the darker branches. Like greys, mixed blacks are always super interesting blacks.

I ink blended the card base grey and then stamped the scene from this stamp set in grey as well, stamping and die cutting the little granny cabin with black ink to make it stand out a bit. The wolf and Little Red Riding Hood were cut with their matching dies and colored with Graphit markers.

There's an equally magical Heroscape out! I know there will probably be some beautiful, super colorful cards with this stunner today, but I wanted to give the feeling of a misty, colorless twilight or dawn, so I went neutral! The first layer and the beautiful, beautiful fairies are stamped in embossing ink. The second layer is stamped in Root Beer Hues, and the floral detail layer is stamped in Unicorn. The sentiment is stamped in Root Beer. This is probably my favorite botanical of the Heroscapes yet because of the little mushrooms and fairies. It's a great scene builder, and Little Red Riding Hood would be so cute in here as well with the cabin on the horizon. This set also has matching dies, but mine is a one layer card.

So you ready for my video? Come back after for a fun giveaway, and one of my favorite
mushroom recipes - a mushroom veggie burger.

And HERE is my version of a barley mushroom veggie burger I found and then heavily modified. Peeling and de-gilling mushrooms is essential, in my opinion, no matter what you are making with mushrooms.

Of course there's more inspiration to be had today, and a giveaway of a $50 gift card for commenting on all the stops in the hop by July 11th - full list starts here

Loveyameanitbye.
