Yes, a Pink Turkey

I saw a crazy little zebra the other day that was born with spots instead of stripes. I also saw a white dolphin. The internet is amazing.

I decided last year not to eat turkey anymore.

I don't like it - I really don't like poultry of any kind, and it's the biggest, grossest pain in the arse to cook. Chicken is already gross - you have to treat it like toxic waste and then bleach your kitchen, so what psychopath thought - hey - let's bring a slippery gross bird twenty times that size into our kitchens?

Also, I cannot tell you how many Thanksgivings we've sat around for three extra hours waiting for a turkey to be done that was supposed to be done at noon. That never happens with steak.

So I made a dramatic declaration last year, and it's going to be prime rib from now on. Or maybe just peanut butter sandwiches and a nap.

When I was growing up, Texas A&M used to smoke hams from pigs that were raised there in the ag program, and that was the last time I liked a ham either. Food is so gross now, generally - it's nothing like what I ate growing up.

But I was thinking, on the slow roll to Thanksgiving, that what if, like that little spotty zebra, the internet found some amazing hot pink turkey wandering the earth and posted it on Instagram?

NO ONE WOULD EVER EAT TURKEY AGAIN.

So I took my adorable little turkey stamp and I made him hot pink. That's right, y'all.

Join me in not wanting to eat this turkey.

The background is made with this hot foiling polka dot die (it covers a whole card front), and this fractured holographic silver foil. Foil is hard to photograph, but it has thousands of shimmery little facets in each dot. I had cut the circle out of the middle for another card, and this was the perfect frame for Mr. Turkey and his important Thanksgiving message. I stamped him in Blackout Ink - have you tried this ink? It's a hybrid, so it works with all mediums, and it's really black and gets great coverage. Fleurette has an A+ ink game. Then I colored him with the brightest Copics I could find (note his green eyes).

  1. I do make a turkey on Thanksgiving. I don't love it, (my husband and son do), but I do love the side dishes, and my kids are sticklers for tradition. If I have to make a few holiday dinners during the year to get my kids to come home, at the same time, I'll do it! (Don't choose me to win the stamp set - I already own it )

  2. I could have written your blog today!!! I make prime rib for thanksgiving, and turkey breast roast for the gravy potential! We have turkey lovers that will be happy, and I am happy too...as long as there is pumpkin pie

  3. My Thanksgiving tradition is going to be to do whatever I want from here on out! Previously, it's been gathering with the family. The family has been crabby because they don't like cooking (or eating) traditional Thanksgiving food but they were all too stubborn or something to come up with new traditions.

To that I say.... pffffffttttt I love your pink turkey.

  5. I love being with my family and homemade dinner rolls that are to die for. I hate shopping but thoroughly enjoy going out on Black Friday with my sisters. The people-watching is priceless.

  6. Our family enjoys a Thanksgiving meal of turkey & ham (sorry Lydia) and visiting with family who live too far away to visit with very often during the year.

  7. I suggest people just make parts-like a couple breasts and some thighs/w legs. Way easier to cook/handle although you dont get the "ooo" when you bring it to table.

I LOVE gravy all year round so this meal...with good stuffing...and I love the skin and this is my one chance of the year. YAY.

  8. I go to my next door neighbors for dinner on Thanksgiving! I am in charge of dessert and this year I am going to try a blackberry cobbler--not gobbler!

  10. I can barely bring myself to look at a raw turkey but raw prime rib is just as bad so I'll stick to turkey at Thanksgiving anyway. However, a pink turkey like this one might actually push me over the edge and make me opt for cold cereal instead! I have a traditional thanksgiving dinner with turkey and all the fixings, and I always make pumpkin pie. Thanks for the chance to win this Letters For Henry stamp set!
