I have a giant problem with watercolor mediums. And by that I mean I'm running out of room for all the ones I want.
I love nothing more than I love a refill for a product I have, and Altenew came out with refills for their watercolor brush markers, so I thought I'd challenge myself to do anything but refill the markers with them. They are so saturated and they match the inks so perfectly, it's fun to mix and mingle them.
First up - a card just using the refills on my craft mat and a water brush. I used this stamp set with the Rubellite, Rouge, Ruby Red, Limeade and Lime refills after stamping these in Fadeout Ink. The sentiment is from the same set.
But using exactly the same watercolor refill colors mixed with white acrylic paint, I got a totally different result! I love the range of color I got. The sentiment is again from the same set.
The refills are also great for ink smooshing though. I did these to show you how closely they coordinate with their inks! I stamped the bird from this set multiple times in Purple Wine, to darken the layering pieces of the bird, and then stamped the head in Lagoon. I used those same refills in the background to pull it all together. The sentiment is from this set as well. I dropped the refill on my craft mat and then sprayed it with a mix of water and Perfect Pearls before dipping my watercolor paper into it to pick it up - you can see a bit of the shimmer.

Your bird card is amazing, just love the look of the smooshed ink background. Lastly, the fade out ink is new to me so I need to look into that further. Sounds awesome since it won't affect the adjoining colors! Thanks for sharing such wonderful ideas!

ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous cards and the techniques look like fun! Of course, one could always just use them as a refill, but I like your ideas. I don't have white acrylic paint, but do have white gouache and think this would work well, too! Thinking out of the box is a good thing and often lots of fun! :)
