You Are Everything

I had the craziest experience this week - one in a long string of experiences in what used to be my hometown, Austin.

I went to lunch with my sister and brother in law downtown, which is vastly different from what it used to be before... a lot of things.

My brother in law dropped us off to go park, expecting to get a metered spot or a paid lot for $8, etc.

Yeah.

What actually happened was that parking was $35.

Let that sink in for a second.

We were having lunch.

A $35 lunch itself would be noteworthy, but let's say that you paid $25 for lunch, because you're just setting money on fire, let's add $35 to that just to be able to get to the restaurant and park your car - how do you feel about that?

I run a family friendly blog, so I can't really tell you how I feel about that, but what I can tell you is that Austin has outlived its usefulness, and that's putting it mildly.

I will say that lunch was delightful, and if you feel like setting some cash on fire, Swift's Attic is delightful, and food allergy friendly. It's not their fault that our city has lost its damned mind.

Anyway, I survived to the weekend and had a little time for stamping. More stories and videos are coming - stories about some home repairs, and videos of some of these cards, that I didn't have time to edit for today. Life is short. Do what you can.

Y'all know I love splashy florals. I did video this card so stay tuned for that soon - but BE STILL MY HEART with these roses! I watercolored them with Daniel Smith watercolor, and added the everything die cut with this no-shed glimmer paper and the you are from this set - after stamp surgery. These pens are what I used for masking out the white spaces.

I also filmed a fun video for this next card - so you'll see that soon. I used these adorable mini fineliners that I take with me when I travel, to color images that I've pre-stamped. They have such vibrant colors, and it's easy to be precise with them on images like this, where a brush marker would be too big. When I was done coloring
this amazing neighborhood image with these adorable mini markers, I shaded with a C5 Copic Marker and an Arteza Fineliner. I will have a video on this in a few days as well.
Video #3 - I'm not even kidding - is a SUPER fun technique on how to use these pastel pencils with stencils to make designs on dark cardstock, so stay tuned!. I used these pencils and this stencil, and that die cut word is actually foiled - hard to photograph, but so much fun in real life and so shiny. I used the Foil Press and the gold foil, and what's awesome is this foiling die comes with a cutting die too.
Finally, and last but not least - the beautiful stamp set Nicole designed at my request for my Junkiefest class. I gave her the sentiments, and requested a bluebonnet, and everyone in my class got this stamp set. We did atmospheric watercolor techniques on it, and I'm so happy that she put my sentiments in there - especially the one about chiggers! But as a child of the 80's, the Tom Petty one was the most important to me, so thanks Nicole for saying yes to that! :)

Enjoy shopping this release!

I need a lot of sleep so that's what I'm planning for today - what are you planning?

  1. $35 to park? Are they out of their ever-lovin' minds (the parking places)? I know downtown Austin can be tight when it comes to parking, but that is highway robbery. I think I'm glad I live in the suburbs of Austin and don't go down there that often. I miss all the great food, but good golly that's horrible to have to pay that much! As always, I love your projects. ~Kim in Round Rock

  2. Oh, I love those little bunches of homes! Reminds me of Italy, maybe someday I'll get there. Looking forward to your videos. Today I am making a card for my grandson, he needs a little encouragement.

  3. I'm just so sad about how Austin has been ruined for you. I love the city....but I don't pay for parking when I'm there. Now about these cards....AMAZING! So happy for this pretty Lydia inspired set. So happy that I HAVE it!! Hugs!

  4. More beautiful cards! I'm looking forward to seeing the videos - you always share great tips & ideas! I laughed at your comment about prices - $35 parking even outdid us here in Vancouver, BC - it's usually $25! :P
