Distressed 3D Embossing and a Moment in The Garden

I'm excited to be the tutorial author at Splitcoast this week. And what is hilarious (and by that I mean sad) about the tutorial I chose, is that when I went to go grab the video for Dina, I realized that even though I had blogged the project and video - I had never published the video to my subscribers. What a ding dong.

I got to make a new sample for the tutorial, which I have for you today and I'll re-post the video at the end of this post.

But today's card is quite different from the original. I used the same graphite paper, (my coupon code for this is still good - UnderstandBlue4 for 10% off their whole site) and this 3D embossing folder (it was included free with my Gemini Junior which I thought was super nice) to create that background, and then I stamped this beautiful rose on watercolor paper and cut it out with the die that comes with it, and then watercolored it. (Their Hero Florals series is a whole line of single botanical illustration stamps like this with matching dies - very affordable and beautifully illustrated.)

Then remember that masking gel pen I used in this video? The set comes with a black one so I used that on the flower center. These are much more dimensional than regular gel pens, and also have a shinier finish, for those of you who were asking what the difference was. They are closer to a glaze pen, but again more raised and dimensional.

And yes, I know I use this word die a lot, but it's pretty much my favorite, so stop yelling at me.
Since I'm blogging a flower, I thought I'd share my favorite upgrade to the backyard - these beautiful strings of Edison lights. My neighbor has had lights in her backyard the entire time we've lived here, and the entire time that we've lived here, I've been jealous. Our yard is very tiny, but it's pretty, and we recently built a little shed that is painted the perfect Santa Fe blue, and I love to sit out there.

We've had such a cool spring so far that pretty much every day we've gotten to sit outside for an hour and just watch the day end. But not after dark until now.

The same company that makes my magnifying lamp in the craft annex makes these, and they come in black or white cords. I chose black, and before our apocalyptic rain started this week we got the back fence lit up. They are 48' long, so it was plenty for our fence run. Here's the view towards the shed. That giant plant is my ginger plant - I love it. It's not the culinary kind - it's ornamental and grows like a weed.

This is the view towards the corner of the yard - the little tree is my Calamondin/Acid Orange tree. In the bed in the corner, there's mistflower, and then the pots are all my herbs.

Here is a closeup of these beautiful little lamps. There's no prettier light than an Edison lamp!

So here are the things I used today - and the video tutorial is below. I hope it's dry where you are and you get a moment in the garden.

Loveyameanitbye.

  1. Beautiful card! I love the look of the embossed graphite. And gotta say I'd love to have a cozy little retreat like your back yard. It all looks so special with those lights illuminating the fence, plants, and your cute blue shed.
