This technique is SO much fun, and in the original Splitcoast technique, the technique uses patterned paper, but I twisted it around for use at my retreat with a super fun Gel Press and foiling technique!
So one night as I was falling asleep I came up with an idea for an impressionist look, combining the ethereal look of alcohol inks with acrylic paints. The good news is, all it cost me was sleep!
I may or may not have been influenced in this sleepy inspiration by my recent acquisition of the new refills for the Altenew alcohol markers.
The next day, I woke up and tried it, and I fell in love with the dreamy look. I combined it with the Serendipity technique plus foiling and used it in one of my retreat classes. Look how fun this collaged background is for my amorous little foxes! I used these sentiments, and some no shed glitter paper.
But my favorite thing to do with pieces from this technique is to miniaturize them, as Judy did in her challenge. It makes mixed media so clean and pretty. The foil bumps it up a notch too. The sentiment for this card is from this set.
Even though it's hip to be square - circles are fun too. I paired these circle die cut pieces with the hello stamp and die from this bundle. I cut the circles with these dies.

ReplyDeleteI had no idea you could use alcohol markers like this! I would never wish it on anyone, but please continue to share any sleep-deprived art sessions with us, because this is opening up so many interesting ideas for me. As for which one is my favorite? I think it's the second one. I love how the very stark squares highlight the abstract softness of what's inside. Because I'm often crafting for small children, I don't ever think of going abstract or impressionistic. That might need to change, because these are lovely. Thank you so much for sharing with us!
