Your Hair is SOOOO Pretty

In Texas, and in much of the South, we have a little phrase that we like to use when someone is being, well, less than Einstein. You know - ditzy. A dingbat. A ding dong. Not the sharpest tool in the shed. A dim bulb. A few beans short of a chalupa. You get the idea.

That phrase is....

your hair is so pretty

Sometimes, this can be shortened to "you're so pretty," or just the stand-by - "bless your heart."

So when I saw the Big On Birthdays set in the catalog at OnStage, I laughed my head off. I felt like it was going on a LOT of birthday cards this year.

Caution - you DO need a sense of humor to operate this stamp set. If you do not have a sense of humor, I recommend a stamp that says something upstanding and honorable (and boring) like "Happy Birthday."

I love snarky stamps. Every time I make a snarky card, I think of my friend Leslie, who made almost nothing but snarky cards.

I inherited some of her funny stamps when she passed away and they make me smile every time I see them. She was a woman with a well-developed sense of humor. She passed away last Christmas, as you might recall, but thankfully her sons left her blog up - you can peruse her cards here.

Anyway - any time any of my friends have a less than brilliant moment, we tell each other "your hair is so pretty!" What's hilarious is the first time you say this to someone from somewhere other than Texas, they say "oh really? Thank you - I didn't even wash it today" or something similar and then you get TWICE the laughs while you explain that what you really meant is that they were being a dingbat.

So for all your "pretty" friends - here's a great birthday card!

The top sentiment is from Hero Arts Irreverent Birthday Messages. And since I'm prone to getting doubles of things, I actually have an extra one of these stamp sets I'll be giving away today!

To win this set, all you have to do is leave me a comment telling me your favorite snarky stamp, or just snarky sentiment you use in real life (keep it clean!).

I'll post the winner on Valentine's Day - when I will be participating in a blog hop with lots of prizes and a great charitable cause.

So enjoy a quick video on this card, and come back and see me soon!

Loveyameanitbye.

  1. Thanks for the warning about the "your hair's so pretty" comment for the next time I'm in Texas! LOL! My favorite snarky stamp is from Riley & Company: "If you have to ask if it is too early to indulge in an adult beverage....you're an amateur and I'm questioning the future of our friendship."

  4. Love snarky cards! My favorite message for the inside of the card is "you look great for your age - almost lifelike". Yeah, use that one quite a bit. ;)

  5. Bwaahaahaa! Love these stamps! In my neck of the woods, we too use "you're so pretty" and "bless your heart". Another one that's really big is "you're so special".

  6. Some medical conditions cause you to have "Pretty Hair". But thank you for noticing it. I didn't wash it today. Haha. I make light of myself all the time.

  7. I just found a stamp that says, "It's only murder if they find a body! If they don't its just a missing person!" and "I hug people I don't like so I know how big to dig the hole in the backyard!" or "Everyone has the right to be stupid, but you are abusing the privlige!" LOL There are quite a few more too on SoSuzyStamps shop site! Just found them and LOVE them! Great card! TFS!

  8. OMG this is sooo cute! I love the colors you used on this card. My favorite saying is "COCO" or "silly" when someone is being, well you know! LOL

  9. Now I am trying to remember if you have ever said this to me? Hugs, Di

  10. My co-worker always says that you can't fix stupid, which seems to be fitting. Love your card, my favorite color combo.

  11. A card after my own heart. I do love a good, snarky card. I don't own any really snarky sentiment stamps YET but I do have a couple of stamps for the back of my cards that are snarky. One says "Hand stamped because I can't draw" & another says "This card took several hours to make, so act impressed".
I agree, you have to have a particular sense of humor to use these stamps as well as receive the cards made with them.
Your card is just gorgeous. Thank you for sharing.

  12. Hi Lydia, this is a cute card and I love the colors you used. I don't really have any snarky comments though I love to hear others come up with some. I am always a little slow with comeback comments but have a friend who comes up with snarky things at the drop of a hat and she is always so funny. I also wanted to check with you to see if your received my information that I sent you on Monday via your blog comment form. If you could just respond to me via my email I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks and have an awesome day!

  14. This is so funny but a great card. My fav. snarky comment is one my friend uses whenever someone is a little daft....If you say 'God Bless you' at the end of your response, it doesn't sound like you are making fun of them. LOL

  15. I busted gut laughing at the card (yet the card is really pretty). I would love to receive a card like this (since 55 is looming closer and closer and I love snarky cards!). Sadly, I don't have any snarky stamps, but I do use this one quite a bit "Over the hill? What hill? Where? When? I don't remember any hill?" I have a set of Over the Hill birthday stamps, but they aren't near as funny as some I have seen. Thanks for the great laugh today. Kim in Round Rock, Tx

  16. Read your blog this morning, then went to the doctors office. On the way home I stopped by Dunkin donuts...I wanted in the worst way, to tell this beautiful lady how PRETTY she looked today...Got the giggles so bad I had to receive out of there. Wow, you get me into the most trouble!!! Love ya bye.

  17. Hi :), as ever your videos are great! Thank you! I think i am not brave enough to say snarky things ... but I once read in a book that a woman was saying to people who irked her "I will pray for you!" I found it pretty hilarious and truly a double meaning :)

  18. Sorry for the loss of your friend Leslie. I LOVE Two Lips!! I laugh so hard reading the sentiments. So Suzy Stamps has some funny ones too. I have too many favorites but here's one from Two Lips I really like. "Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators. We haven’t met yet."

  19. OMYGAHED. That set is so fabulous and your card is SO PRETTY. But for real pretty, not Texas pretty. I mean not the way you meant it on this card. You know what I mean. Love you mean it more.

  22. I like the one from the Bombs Away Birthday stamp set that says "Congratulations! The music you grew up on is now considered classic rock". I also like "Happy 29th birthday from your 110 lb. friend". Love your videos...love you!

  25. My favourite is "You're special," said with accent on the special so that it sounds like it's being spelled phonetically "speshull" :)

My favourite snarky stamp has an older woman with a fire extinguisher saying, "Ok, light the candles." :)

  26. I Love Stampin ups well that just stinks!

  27. The snarkiest stamp I have ever seen said "how can you smell so bad and not be dead". Lol

  28. Love the card, Lydia. I was just telling a friend of mine the other day how much I enjoyed your artwork and your musings. Also, have to add that I got in trouble at work quite a long time ago when my boss announced he was hiring a lady who I knew from other places in my life. My only comment was "She's so pretty". Then I went on to explain what that really meant. He was not amused. Another not so subtle one I use is "you can't fix stupid"

  30. I so enjoy your stories, Lydia. And I remember fondly your friend Leslie -- I loved reading her posts, so witty and entertaining. In fact, I especially loved the posts about Babra -- I do hope she's well since her humom is gone. I remember crying when I read about Leslie and crying more when I thought about what would happen to Babra...

About your question today -- my favorite snarky sentiment is "aww, you're so special," accompanied by a gentle stroke on the special person's arm :)
Snarkasm is fun. Thank you for the inspiration!

  31. I love the Funny Bones stamps. My newest one says, 'Abs are great but have you tried cupcakes'? I'm always looking for snarky or sarcastic stamp sets, they're so me. LOL

  33. My husband and I have a snarky saying when we hear a child screaming in public places. "Stick a lemon in it". To understand, there is a story behind this saying. We were at a restaurant with out daughter and grandchildren. Our granddaughter kept screaming just to hear herself scream and get undivided attention. We had noticed that she didn't like the lemons at out table. So, every time she screamed, we would stick a lemon in her mouth. Needless to say, it didn't take her long to realize she needed to stop screaming if she didn't want that lemon in her mouth. It worked! So, when we hear a screaming child in public, we say "stick in a lemon in it" and we laugh. It's a private joke, but we really like it.

  34. My favorite bd card I received about 30 yrs ago and it’s still fresh in my mind. On the front: You are not – I repeat – not getting old and fat. On the inside: You are developing powerful muscles that help you sit for a very long time without tiring.

  35. That is funny! In Georgia we keep it to "Bless your heart" - gotta love the south where we are sweet even we aren't! Some of my favorite snarky stamps are from Riley and Company - I love to just read through them and laugh!

  36. My favorite is "More Hay? No Thanks Roy, I'm Already Stuffed" which won't be appreciated by people under a certain age..... they won't know what the heck it means!

  37. Your analogy is so funny. I'll have to remember it. My mom taught me if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. Gives me a renewed opinion of the big on birthday stamp set.

  38. In France, my generation came with the same kind of snarky sentiment saying ”Tu es mignonne” , you’re sweet in English. I love snarky sentiments but we don't have this kind of stamp sets in French. That said, you're card is really pretty :)

  39. Hahaha such a funny and irreverent card! Love it!!!
I think it's so funny this one:
    "Never go to bed mad
    Stay up late &
    plot your revenge"

It's so hilarious! I've just seen that is one of So Suzy Stamps'snarky stamp! A must-have!!!

  41. I don't have any snarky sayings in general, but one thing my sisters and I always say to each other is "Another year closer to looking like Mom!" Great way to commiserate as we compare gray hairs and wrinkles!

  42. I love your card and the colors!! I also love snarky cards! I am always on the look out for snarky stamps. I have a few from Riley and Company.
Boy I have a couple that are truly my favorites. A friend will calm you down when you are angry but a Best friend skips beside you singing "someone is gonna get it!", Next time a stranger talks to me when I am alone. I will look at them shocked and whisper quietly... You can see me?, Congratulations on being a year older and still maintaining such a low level of maturity. You are truly an inspiration. Those are from Riley & Company. If you're already walking on thin ice you may as well dance., I'm so fascinated by the process, fascinating myself fascinates me. Those are by dylusions. Not as funny as Riley & Company but still gives me a giggle from time to time.
