We lived to stamp another day!!!

We did! And we learned some fun stuff! The DBWS E-cards will soon be able to be 100% customized! You can make them look like whatever you'd like! Whee!

There's a hostess special that starts in a week - $25 extra in hostess benefits for a $350 workshop.

And then there was the eye candy!! Oh, and I should probably give something away, eh?

First, the Vintage display board. It was breathtaking. I left this photo a little larger, so click to enlarge.

Screamed and growled when I saw this freaking adorable hand puppet made with the pennant die!! SQUEEEE!
Love, loved, will always love this set. Beautiful card from the boards.
Sigh. This is perfection.
This was an INCREDIBLE mosaic card! How long do you think this took her? It's beautiful.
Then this gorgeous birdhouse. I couldn't tell what the little flowers were made of but they were delicate and beautiful. My photo doesn't do them justice.
ACKKKK - LOVE THIS!!! One of the Artisan Award winners, I believe.
I think this was a winner also. What a gorgeous idea for a lampshade and how simple!!
So what should I give away? A little collapsible trashcan from memento mall? It's adorable!!

Or one of the cute tote bags - I have both the one with the flowers and the one with the owls.

So, I will give one of those away tonight - the winner can pick.

To win, leave a comment on this entry telling me your absolute favorite book you've ever read and why! :) Charm me, surprise me, make me laugh. I need some new books!

See pictures of my make & takes here and here.

Have you signed up for the UBlue Cyber Club? Attended one of my Webinars?? Come on - get your geek on! :) Want to see my other blog?

  2. I loved "Angela's Ashes"....reminded me that no matter how awful our circumstances may be, we can always get through it with love, family & a whole lot of humor! :)

Love your work Lydia! Thanks for your help with the laptop bag info earlier today! :)

  3. I imagine I can't tell you something like "Where the Wild Things Are" or "Marvin K. Mooney" so Bag of Bones by Steven King ( http://www.amazon.com/Bag-Bones-Stephen-King/dp/0684853507 ) Typical Steven King... very eerie. One of the few books I stayed up all night reading :)

  4. How fun!! looks like you had a blast, thank you for sharing.

As for my favorite book... right now I'd have to say Double Star by Heinlien... it's a true "pocket" book (before they started mass publishing 600+ page books), an easy read and I just adore Heinlien. Hrm, or Citizen of the Galaxy, same author. Same reasons :D

  5. puleeze...you ask a book lover to tell you her favorite book EVER?!? like she could choose O.N.E?!

i'll share with you my most recent epic find, and that'll have to suffice:

the forgotten garden by kate morton. the storyline travels back and forth between present day Australia, late 1800s England, and 1970s England as the main character searches to understand who she is in light of some very disturbing information presented to her at her 21st birthday. 560+ pages and i could not put it down.

    here's another, just for snix:

saving cee cee honeycutt by beth hoffman. debut novel set in OH and GA, telling the story of cecelia rose honeycutt and her insane mother, and what happens to cee cee when her mother is finally completely uncapable of caring for her.

sounds like you're having a great time!

  6. My favorite book of all time:
To Kill a Mockingbird, and it was a must read, as in required, in high school!

    Loved the movie, too.

  7. I highly recommend the Dr. Seuss book "You're Only Old Once! A Book For Obsolete Children".

It is a lesser known Seuss and every adult should read this parody on growing old.

I promise there are no green pants with nobody inside them!

  8. Oh that lampshade is too cute!

Any book by Jen Lancaster. Bitter is the New Black is the first (she has four) but my fave is Such a Pretty Fat. She is sarcastic and hilarious and it chronicles her real life attempt to lose weight (I could relate as I'm a smart you know what and had a weight problem at one time). Her books are great summer reads and I love them. She has one that's all about the clothes she has worn over the decades, Pretty In Plaid...who wouldn't love that? :-)

  9. I must recommend "The things we do for love" by: Kristin Hannah!

It's about a couple that seperate after not being able to have children and then the wife helps out a troubled teen. It will make you cry and laugh! Don't want to give away the end...

  10. Looks like your having fun at convention... so jealous!! I stumbled upond your blog from SCS and love it. Thanks for all the pictures.

Well, I like fluff books and my favorite books are by Sophie Kinsella -- the shopaholic series -- best books ever!! Not to mention love the undomestic goddess.

Have fun and keep taking pictures for us.

  11. Thanks for posting all the pictures and info on convention! It almost makes me feel like I'm there.

My favorite book? That is a toughie, I read all the time, but I think it is Julia's Hope by Leisha Kelly. It's about how a family survives the depression. Sounds like a downer, but it isn't. It's the first in a series and I loved them all.!

  12. My favorite book is "Firefly Lane" by Kristin Hannah. It is a story about best friends who travel through middle & high school, college, first jobs, and continues on with them going their separate ways, but always connected through their friendship. There is a wonderful mom character who gives some great advice to the girls when asked.

  13. I just finished reading The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. It is sort of an adult version of The Secret Garden--a mystery about family history that unfolds over the course of three generations. It was a perfect airport/airplane read for me!

  14. Whoa! Just read back and noticed that Jenn just read the same thing! Small world! Love that!!! It's fate. Clearly. You were meant to read it ;-)

  15. I am so sad that I can't make it to convention this year, but your posts are making things a bit more bearable. Thank you!! My favorite book...there are so many...Sweet Potato Queens Book of Love by Jill Conner Browne is pretty high on my list. Green sequins, majorette boots, & the five men every woman must have in their life. Need I say more?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Love it. It can be a little hard to follow, but I've read it three times, so can't be too bad.

  17. Hi There

Thanks so much for posting all the wonderful things from Convention. I'm so bummed that I couldn't go this year. Next year for sure!

My favorite book is Hop on Pop. I work at an elementary school so I don't really get a chance to read big kid books. tee hee I asked the 5th graders at our school what book they wanted me to read and this was the unanimous winner by far.

Enjoy the rest of Convention and I hope you make it on the game show!

    Take care,
    Laurie

  18. Thanks so much for for sharing your convention experience with us. It is truly appreciated.

As far as a book...The Shack by William P. Young. I found it a great read.

  19. A Child called It. Not a funny book, but very heartwarming.

  20. One of my favorite books is "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" by Betty Smith. It is the story of a proverty-stricken young girl named Francie Nolan growing up in Brooklyn, NY in the early 1900's.

I could tell she was my kind of girl because she was trying to read her way through the entire card catalog!

You must read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, I really think you would love it.

  22. Although I never win anything (so my hopes are not high in this arena) I thought I would share with you my favorite book. It's actually a children's book. Makes for easy reading! ;) It is called Love You Forever, and it's by Robert Munschne. I read it to my kids and every time I do, it makes me cry. It's a great book for any mom and just as good for anyone that has a mom. :)

It looks like Convention is a blast so far (no surprise there!). I'm crossing my fingers that maybe next year will work out for me, but I know we will be moving next summer (should be - rather) so it might not happen for me again. Have lots of fun for me Lydia!!!

Thanks so much for sharing all of this info with us!!!

  23. Thanks so much for sharing your pics!! My all time favorite book is The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. First read it in junior high but I still totally love it, great story!!

  24. Looks like you are having a wonderful time!! My favorite book was 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. Right before Devan started kindergarten she went to orientation and they read that book to them. She loved that book and we still read it together (don't tell her I told you, she is 19).

  25. I love reading the favorite books as much as seeing the wonderful creations! My favorite: A Place to Call Home by Deborah Smith.

My favorite cildren's book: Bunnicula by James Howe. Enjoy that convention!

  26. Great peeks from Convention - I have so many favorite books but one that stands out at this moment is "Little Women"

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anything by Nicholas Sparks! Just love his books. I sooo wish I was at convention! Next year for sure!

  28. I love your blog - you always make me laugh! I agree with many others that it is hard to pick one favorite. I have to say that I loved, loved, loved all the Harry Potter books. I read the first one because my then 5th grade son's teacher was reading it to the class and I wanted to know what it was about. I was hooked!

  29. I collect cookbooks and love cooking classes so my favorite book right now is "The Perfect Recipe for Losing Weight & Eating Great" It was written by Pam Anderson-not 'that' one :o) who I have taken a few classes from. I love that she shares her story of her own weight gain due to her profession and how she came to decide to do something about it. Her recipes have loads of options and suggestion that help even a novice cook feel secure in experimentation.

  30. Lydia - thanks for all the glimpses into convention - you know we all live vicariously through you....
Now... books.... OK - Traversa: A Solo Walk Across Africa, from the Skeleton Coast to the Indian Ocean by Fran Sandham.

Why? Here's a quote from my review of the book entitled "mad dogs and Englishman go out in the noonday sun... "This book is ideal for people who enjoy the sardonic, understated part of English humour; those who love a story of myopic refusal to veer from the goal; voyeurs of human nature and those who overall appreciate the indomitable spirit of an individual who is driven by the need to do something that no-one has quite done before - and lived to tell the tale."

I promise you will enjoy it

  31. Thanks for all your pictures and updates from Convention! It helps us live vicariously through you!

Too many favorite books to pick one but I am waiting (impatiently!!) for the 3rd book in the Hunger Games series. Uber-good, can't put down even though it's 1:00AM and you have work in the morning good!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wow, only one book? It has to be The Notebook. I bawled my eyes out, but it's about a love that one could only wish to have in their lifetime.

Now being a teacher, I have to add a children's book and it has to be The Polar Express. I still get chills every time I read it to a class. I still hear the chime of reindeer bells. How can you not believe in Santa Claus? :-)

Funny that both of these were made into movies. I guess I'm not the only one who loves them!

    ReplyDelete
  33. LOVE the M&T!!! I have read SO MANY books, I don't think I have a favorite, but if I must choose, I'd say Outlander - the first book in the Outlander series. Why? Jamie is HOT! And it takes place in Scotland. And it involves time travel. And I live historical fiction. The end.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I highly recommend "All the Way Home" by Ann Tatlock. Great story with a GREAT ending and excellent character development. Hmmm, It's been several years since I read that, I'll have to read it again. All her books are wonderfully entertaining reads.

  35. Thanks for all the great pictures and information from convention. I like all of Karen Kingsbury books.

  36. I love reading about the convention from your blog...it's the next best thing to being there.

My favorite book is Snowflower and the Secret Fan. It really takes you back in time and is a book that is hard to put down.

After reading all of these comments, I guess I need my next web stop to be Amazon.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Daddy Long Legs - I must have read it 7 times when I was younger but I loved it again when I re-read it to my daughter. I love how she comes from almost nothing and takes it all in and then tells him everything when she doesn't even know him! What a strong character!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thanks for all the updates!

I am reading anything w/ Fancy Nancy in it right now. (My dd is 3 and very girly). Reading about a girl who loves everything fancy (and accessorized) makes me think I need to add more bling bling to my SU projects! More glitter, more buttons, big bows tied w/ the wide ribbons, and all the smooch spritzes, etc. The shinier the better!!!

Hope you're having a mah-velous time at convention!!!

  39. Love the Vintage board! Heart thump!

My very dramatic sister read every good book and retold it to me in her fashion from the top bunk every night. So, when I read to myself I could hear her voices in my head playing the story up to it's ultimate potential.
When I discovered Ramona the Pest, and the character of the girl who sat in front of her with blonde ringlets, (which was me) I secretly enjoyed acting out the ringlet pulling, gum spitting ways of Ramona, (my opposite in every way). I loved that book because I could escape my world and tromp around in muddy boots and sarcastic humor and noone knew about it.
Explains why I chose my husband, and why this is my favorite blog! I thank Ramona I can enjoy sarcasm vicariously through others, while still behaving politely.

Thank you for sharing your convention experiences and goodies with the less fortunate. You totally rock girlie!

  42. There is no way I could pick one book. I teach Reading, and love everything from the Biscuit books my 5 year old is learning to read to the books I teach such as Gloryfield, and the Sharon Draper novels for teens. My guilty pleasure lately has been Nora Roberts' bride series. Easy, fun reading that has my waiting anxiously for book 4 in the fall!

Thanks for all the great updates!

  43. Thanks for posting all the great pictures of convention. Love love love them. My favorite book(s) were "All creatures great and small" and the rest of the set. I think that I went through 2 or 3 sets as a tween and teenager. I was going to grow up and be a vet in England. Don't know how a girl from Idaho needed to go to England to be a vet. Instead grew up to have all the pets. Love your blog.

  46. Lydia, I hope you are having an amazing time at Convention; you deserve it! My favorite book (actually a series)is the Mitford books by Jan Karon. I have the whole series, and I reread them every year or so. They are about the people who live in a small town in Mitford, North Carolina. The characters are so realistic that you feel as if you know them!

  48. Two favorites: Charlotte's Web, which I read to my kindergarten class every year...you're never too young to hear that story read to you and the other would be Knuffle Bunny. Knuffle (you DO pronounce the "K") Bunny is a children's book but there is so much in there that adults love. There is also a Knuffle Bunny Too. They're hilarious! LOVE THEM.

  49. If you want to resolve all your What Should I Read Now worries for a year or so, try Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series; the first one is The Eye of the World. I found this fantasy to be absolutely un-put-down-able.

Thanks for your fabulous convention photos. I always believe you take the pictures I'd take if I were there.
And thanks for letting me see your readers' book choices!

  50. Lydia, thanks so much for the great pictures and commentary! You're a doll to spare the time for us stay-at-homes... Favorite book?? Lydia, I've never in my life gone for any period without having at least one book going...so my favorite would have to be whatever I'm reading now, which is the "Sookie Stackhouse" series of books by Charlaine Harris...what a hoot! ~Betsy Z.

  51. It's hard to pick a favorte book - I've read Catcher in the Rye a thousand times (give or take)! Love some Salinger!! Sounds like convention is fun - can't wait to see more.

    ReplyDelete
  52. thanks for sharing from convention! My favorite book is The Lady Elizabeth by Alison Weir - it's such a nice blend of history and fiction without being in your face about the history. It's the first historical fiction and I ever read and is still my favorite.

  53. Timothy Finelay's Famous Last Words. TF is Canadian.....and he's brilliant. Not much more I can say. All of his stuff is fab!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. How about Did You Say Stamp - by Ima Stamper? lol - just kidding!

I am totally into the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich! Totally entertaining and has me giggling throughout! I'm on book 3 - there are like 16 books in the series so far!!

Thanks for your ongoing inspiration! Enjoy the rest of your time in SLC!!

  55. Jitterbug Perfume, by Tom Robbins, because 1) it's by Tom Robbins, 2) it's about making perfume, 3) it's about everlasting life, and 4) there are beets mentioned on every single page of the book.

    ReplyDelete
  56. My favorite book of all time is a book I first read when I was about 12. It's called They Loved to Laugh by Kathryn Worth. So good, so heartwarming!!

Another of my faves from more recent years is Water for Elephants. The old man in the care home reminded me so much of crusty but loving grandpa that I miss so dearly.

    ReplyDelete
  57. My favorite book was one I read in High School. The Chosen by Chaim Potak (I think I butched his name). I've always loved that book.

Thanks for all the convention highlights!

  58. Oh! So many treats to see and enjoy! Thank you so much for sharing. There is a series of books by Steig Larsson, The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo is the first of the series. There is a strange part to read quickly through, but is for background info. I couldn't put it down, and now read the second book, Girl Who Played With Fire, same suspense. I had gotten it from the library with only 7 days to read during a busy week of kid activities.

  59. Thanks for the gorgeous pics and the fun peeks into convention for those of us unable to attend! Favorite book...surely you jest! I suppose my all time, forever favorite would be the Bible since it is definitely interesting, ageless, and certainly has words to live by, as well as mystery, love stories, and of course, drama in unlimited quantities! Plus, I try to read it daily and I don't consistently re-read any other book that often. I think I not only have read, but own, all of the children's books mentioned in this post. My favorite kid's books are those in the Junie B. Jones series by Barbara Park. How can you not like someone who calls clear nail polish the "color of spit"???

    ReplyDelete
  60. "Eat, Pray, Love".....read that one six times....then it hit me....I am stuck living in the "eat"...time to hit the disipline and "pray"!! Thanks for the updates!

    ReplyDelete
  61. My most favorite book is Love Story. Such a touching story and I love the characters. The movie almost did it justice. lol

    ReplyDelete
  62. Like many of you who posted above I'm a reader too so I'll tell you what I'm reading now: The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Classified as mysteries but they are so much fun. Thanks for the pictures from convention.

p.s. You don't have to read them in order.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Anne of Green Gables. The whole series is timeless. Plus, of course, I am Anne with an E also... :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. For current (well for me, as I don't have much time to read lately), it's the Twilight series and I also love Harry Potter series. My favorite book from childhood was The Rescuers (a Disney book).

    ReplyDelete
  65. It looks like you're having so much fun at convention! I love seeing pictures from everyone!

I have one book in particular that I would read every summer when I was a kid, The Hounds of the Morrigan by Pat O'Shea. It pulled a lot of detail and history from Celtic lore to tell the story of two children who buy a book that turns out to be a prison for Olc-Glas, the Morrigan wants to take over the world by using the Olc-Glas's evil. The last time I went to borrow it from the library years ago it was MIA and I went into an FIT, lol. As an adult I came across Orson Scott Card's Enchantment and absolutely LOVE it! As a retelling of Sleeping Beauty that basically puts forth the idea of "what if the stories were all true". It's another book that I've read multiple times, it was actually my first book of his to read and had me jumping into his other novels. It's not a huge book so it's an easy one to grab and read on a relaxing weekend in between your stamping!

    ReplyDelete
  66. My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult I give fair warning that the movie is total crap in comparison. They really really really messed up the end of the movie BIG time and I'm still upset about it a year later!! I really connected with this book and all the emotions within. You will need a box of kleenex nearby.

Thanks for all the conventions updates. I wish I were there this year.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Thanks for the pictures. What beautiful things. The absolute BEST book I have ever read is "Persuasion" by Jane Austen. Such a beautiful love story. Oh, if only men today were like Frederick Wentworth....

  69. I am gonna comment with my favorite book I have read this month! :) as with so many others I have too many favorites that also date back to my childhood/teenage years.. but "Red Pyramid" by Rick Riordan was awesome!.. Yes I know its "young authors book..." but like his "Percy Jackson" series that brought greek mythology back to life... he does the same for egyptian-ology!! With your love for cats think you will fall in love with the loving character "Bast"

  70. Oh, the lampshade is awesome! One of my all time favorite books, from childhood actually, is Blue Willow, a story based on blue willow dishes. I'm sure my copy is still around here somewhere, probably packed in a box. Of course, half the liking probably came from the blue & white.

    ReplyDelete
  71. My all-time favorite book is "The Time Traveler's Wife." I just loved the whole idea of the book, and trying to wrap my mind around the way the author presents time travel, and the love between the two main characters. Just wonderful. Haven't seen the movie because I'm sure it doesn't do the book justice. Thanks for giveaway chance and all the great news from Convention!

  72. HOLY COW BATMAN!! I made the birdhouse! It was one of my Artisan Award entries.

I have been reading your blog for a looooooong time and what a surprise this morning to see my birdhouse! WOW! Thank you!

I made the flowers by using the distresser tool on the cutter kit and using the fluff it leaves. I used whisper white, regal rose and rose red.

Those are actually Robin's Eggs (Easter candy) inside. I couldn't send it in empty ;)

Thanks so much Lydia! You totally made my day.

  75. So sad to not be hanging with you in SLC for our regular fly out of town to meet up! But so happy that you love to share and blog! :-) Absolute favorite book??? Are you kidding me?? Well, that would be the Polar Express, but I don't think that is what you're looking for in a new read. The Sunflower by Simon Wiesenthal and 19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult are a couple that have pushed me in an uncomfortable and powerful way. On the lighter side, I've just read the first two books in a trilogy by Adriana Trigiani: Very Valentine and Brava, Valentine...it's about the life of a shoemaker...you like shoes! I also love the Harry Potter Series, but highly recommend you read it via audio books. The orator is FABULOUS! Thanks for asking this question, I have a list of books to add to my reading list. I miss you!

  76. I have loved the book called The Family that Nobody Wanted by Helen Doss since I was about 11 years old. I found the original book, with a blue cover in my grandmother's stack of reading material, and found it to be eye-opening. I loved it, and have re-read it many times since then. Thanks for the chance to win things from convention...

  77. Great topic! Totally copying the posts for future reading! I loved The Shack. I listened to it on CD. Husband read it. I read a couple chapters when I couldn't listen, and think the CD with the different voices for the characters did it for me. It was a book full of comfort and hope.

  78. I have many favorite books, but the first one that came to mind was "The Wedding" by Nicholaus Sparks. It is the story of marriage and how we sometimes take it for granted. I think it is a book that every married couple should read.
Some other faves: Midwives by Chris Bohjalian (sp?), Harry Potter, Fox in Socks, Love you Forever, Janet Evanovich, John Grisham, Harlan Coben...I could go on and on.
    Have fun and Happy Reading!

  80. My most favorite book is: The Secret Garden. by Frances Hodgson Burnett
I discovered this book when I was 11 and I read it over and over. While it is a young reader's book, it has real life in it. To me it shows what one can do if one puts his/her mind to it.

My adult book would be Eat, Pray, Love.

Wish I was at convention :(

  83. I'm way behind on this, but my favorite book is a good one, and with all your love for the picturesque, i had to share, even if the contest is over...

"A River Runs Through It" by Norman MacLean...

the way he write makes me want to go to Montana and go fly fishing, just so I could experience the peace it brought him, and the love that was poured in to him learning, even if the relationship with his dad was sometimes volatile... the pictures created with his words are beyond gorgeous...

  84. My favorite book to date is "House Rules" by Jodi Picoulet. Though the book is fiction it definately gives the reader an acurate insight to what autism/asperger's syndrome is from the view of the parent, sibling and affected.

  85. Any of the books by Jodi Picoulet. I just finished Water for Elephants, it was a great story about a young man that ran away to the circus, his life and how he ran away from the nursing home and back to the circus.

  87. I will never forget "Where The Red Fern Grows" from fourth grade. Definite tear jerker if you've never read it

  88. Ummm.....recent faves include the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris....and not that I have a vampire thing but my current "series" that I am working on is the Undead & Unwed books (Queen Betsy) by Mary Janice Davidson. I usually want to be entertained when I read and not think too hard/be stressed by a story (enough stress in my real life LOL).

  89. A Prayer for Owen Meany - John Irving - an oldie, but a goodie. Pat Conroy's South of Broad - brilliant descriptions of life in the south (maybe that's because I'm from Saskatchewan?) and fabulous characters. Thanks for the question - I'm getting some great ideas for my summer reading!

Thanks for the updates from convention - I want to get there some day!

  90. Prior to revealing my favorite book/author, I would just like to say that your blogs are hysterical and I love the way you spell bunneh! I have a soft spot for hand puppets as well, so I'm glad you shared that pendant alligator. I am making this recommendation with your favorite book list in mind, because I don't want to be held responsible for you reading Twilight. So with that said... I would recommend Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk. He is absolutely my favorite author and I love everything he writes, but I must warn you he is not for the faint of heart. His tales are very off-the-wall and will keep you guessing as to what's really happening. He brings social commentary to a new level. If you have not read anything by him, this is the book I would start with. He is most well known for writing Fight Club, but please do not let the movie dissuade you and if you liked the movie well me too!

  91. My favorite book is Papa's Wife by Thyra Ferre Bjorn. It is a story of a young girl who was hired to become a housekeeper for a stodgy single preacher. She was feisty & disrupted his wife. It's funny & charming and a fantastic book. I have read it several times. It's about time to read it again!

  93. Thanks for sharing the great photos. I haven't had time to read a book in quite a while so I don't have any to share with you. I just wanted to say thanks.

  94. Hi Lydia,
Love your blog and the stories about the kitties!
My favorite all time book is Follow the River by James Alexander Thom. It's based on a true story of a pregnant woman kidnapped by Indians in 1755. They took her to their village where she eventually escaped and walked home -- 1000 miles away! It's very intense but is a great story.
Thanks for the convention updates and photos!

  96. Gosh, that's hard, to pick just one! I am a librarian, so I have LOTS of books from which to choose! As previously mentioned, the best one I read this last year was "The Help." My favorite books as a kid were (of course) the Nancy Drew series. My two favorite things in life are reading and stamping! Thanks for sharing with us! Diane in Michigan

  97. I think my fave book of all time is the cheesiest, sappiest Romance Novel.. It's called A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Devereaux.

It's about a pathetic (pitiful/nary a backbone really) schoolteacher who takes a trip to England which is supposed to be a romantic vacation - and she gets left there. She cries on the grave of an Earl from the 16th century who was executed for treason, and he comes to life. Imagine the follies as he experiences the here and now.. and then circumstances have it that she ends up traveling back in time to his day, but she has memory on her side, and solves the mystery of his (erroneous) execution. Of course, in the process, she also grows the long lost backbone - and having been a part of history, of course she leaves her mark and changes things for the better in HER lifetime.. ;)

Of course there's too much sappy lovey dovey stuff in it, but it is one I just have to read over and over again and can NOT seem to part with! Trust me, READ it. Even if you don't like romance novels. The historical angle is interesting enough. LOL!

Thanks for keeping us updated on Convention!

  99. Lydia, thanks for all the pictures and tales from convention. I think one of my alltime favorite books is actually the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. So funny! I just love them. Glad you are having such a wonderful time.

Gone with the Wind -- my all time fav! I first read it when I was about 13 years old and found it totally captivating. I suddenly developed a Southern accent and practiced flirtatiously batting my eyelashes in the mirror. I wanted to be Scarlett - but believe me, Rhett did not exist in my 7th grade class ;-)
I've read GWTW about a gazillion times since then - and even had my book club read it last year. After their initial grumbling, they loved it also...

  101. Lately my favorite books are the three by Sarah Addison Allen. The Girl Who Chased The Moon, Sugar Queen and Garden Spells. There is something magical or mystical in each one, and they are all wonderful. I wish she would write faster. :) Other than that my childhood faves have to be Nancy Drew and the Little House on the Prairie books. ;)
