I remember one time a dermatologist told me that most skin issues that itch - like poison ivy, rashes etc. - are actually made worse by the thing you do to relieve them - scratching.
I feel like internet grumpiness is the same way. Someone is feeling grumpy, and so they say something grumpy to someone else in an attempt to make themselves feel better. But I think the end result is quite the opposite, as it just results in more grumpiness.
On the other hand, even if you're feeling super grumpy, if you smile, or laugh or say something nice to someone, you feel better. It's a choice, and an important one.
Ask these two little fish! One chose to be grumpy today and one chose to smile.
I don't even KNOW these fish very well, and I know the one on the right is happier.

I stamped these little guys in Amalgam ink, and then cut them out with my Scan 'n Cut. Then I colored them with Copic markers, and glued them onto an oxidized shaving cream background that I cut with infinity dies. If you haven't seen my video on that background technique yet, click here to watch.

ReplyDeletegreat card and colors! and thank you for a great friday morning devotional...a positive message for the day:)
ReplyDeleteI love this fun little fish card! The colors are such a deep shade of blue! I always tell myself to choose wisely, meaning that a person always has a choice to make someone's day better or worse. I think that's a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI choose happy (always) it takes too much effort to be grumpy! Must admit though grumpy fish is cute.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that sentiment!
ReplyDeleteMay be he just has an awkward smile and is misunderstood. Cute little guys.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Smiling always feels better. Spread happiness!
ReplyDeletePoor little fishie Butch... I would be grump(ier) too if my teeth stuck out so far they hit my eyeballs.. LOL. of course your right, attitude and how you respond to someone else's attitude is a choice... some people do not seem to know this ,. :)
ReplyDeleteThis card is adorable and now I know what else I can do with my shaving cream bubbles back ground. Thanks Lydia. Gail
I think the grumpy fish is misunderstood! It’s the strong jaw line! 😂
ReplyDeleteI try to live by the motto "Be kinder than necessary" and that makes me happy, although I was sorely tested at the DMV last month, she was DEFINITELY grumpy, so I smiled and said Have a great day! I'm secretly hoping she felt really bad for the way she treated us (oh wait!, Be kinder than necessary! my bad). Adorable card, love those Distress Oxide shaving cream backgrounds. QUESTION!! How do you keep your S&C mat tacky??
ReplyDeleteCute card, especially your happy fish. Love your background videos.
ReplyDeleteSuch fun fish!! HOpe I always choose to be happy! LOVED your background especially!!
ReplyDeleteGrumpy looking animals, like this fish, are always so cute. Attitude! But, people, not so much!

ReplyDeleteThe circle beautiful background makes this card!!
ReplyDeleteI have never understood why someone would thumbs down a video or leave a mean comment - what purpose does it serve? If you can't say anything nice... Makes me scratch my head every time. I do love your card Gorgeous background and adorable brightly colored fish.
ReplyDeleteOh Mr. Grumpy is the most incredible color of green. So much so that he makes me happy. And his expression reminds me so much of my youngest grandbaby. She is an expert pouter.
ReplyDeleteyour card is so much fun.
I just think "grumpy" has an overbite! 😂
ReplyDeleteLove the fish with big personalities! Wonderful background and I agree we have to chose to be cheerful.
ReplyDeleteThese are the cutest fish! I am always the happy one. I believe one should always be kind even when having a grumpy day.
ReplyDeleteI'm a grumpy person in everyday life but I've never left a thumbs down on bad comments. I always appreciate all the inspiration from every kind of art.
ReplyDeleteYour card is adorable. Love the beautiful background!
I'll choose and try to be the happy fish most of the time. I'm not perfect after all, and occasionally grumpiness does enter the picture, but only my own view of the world and I try never to impose on others. You've captured these two beautiful, although different attitude fish with such bold and vivid colouring and I love the fish bowl/tank background. The sentiment is awesome. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteTotally awesome card! LOVE that sentiment & your choice of fishies! My mom always said" if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!", & I try to follow that saying.
ReplyDeleteHappiness is a choice. Cute card, love the colors.
ReplyDeleteCute card! Love the circle background and adorable fishes.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing...

ReplyDeleteWhat an adorably fun card! Love, love, love the background and coloring of the fish! TFS!
ReplyDeleteSo true...it's a choice. Love your background, great technique. And those fish are darling. Great coloring and design. Just a darling card.
ReplyDeleteGrumpy fish is adorable even if he is grumpy LOL but doesn't he just make you want to smile??!! I always try to choose to smile, it just makes you feel good all over.... like happy fish.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun little card Lydia!
ReplyDeleteChoosing positivity is always a great idea. Thanks for sharing these cute cards. I saw the shaving cream in the linky and thought I'd read incorrectly. Have to take a look at that.
ReplyDeleteI choose Happy... usually... okay half the time...
ReplyDeleteYour comments are spot on - and so is that card! Love the sentiment and those little fish! TFS!
ReplyDeleteThis card made me right away say AWWWWWWW! the fishes facial expressions fit the sentiment so perfectly! And the background is gorgeous too!!
ReplyDeleteAdorable card! Love the water effect and the cute fish! Awesome colors!
ReplyDeleteAdorable card! I love that sentiment and how stylized "be" is!
ReplyDeleteI often use shaving cream backgrounds (one of my young helpers enjoys creating them with me), but I haven't cut them in shapes. That added so much (less is more) to your card. The fish are cute. Much as I strive to be the happy, kind fish, I've reached the age where some days feature an unpleasant attitude. I've been known to enter a conversation with a warning!
ReplyDeleteSo cute and colorful!
ReplyDeleteHe isn’t grumpy! He just needs an orthodontist.....
ReplyDeleteThe scratching/non-scratching theory... that’s an interesting one for sure ! And your card is awesome with this stunning background that just looks like planet earth !

Love what you have created with the fish, Lydia. I stick with: “If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say it at all”. 😉
