Simplicity

Remember when we were little and all that mattered were big blocky forms and bright colors? There was a book I had when I was little that I can't remember for the life of me, that is very much like my second card. If you know this book, could you leave it in a comment?

But first things first, right?

I had a dream at convention about a card that I will recreate when I'm not so sleepy. Then, when I got home, a very similar card was posted by Julie Ebersole on her Paper Trufflez blog, which I LOVE. That woman is amazing.

So since clearly those two things together were a sign from God, I thought I really should at least try something similar. And I promise to give you the dream card soon. I love it in my head. But here's its cousin, Julie's card's niece.

It's so simple! Just Whisper white. Stamp two butterflies, masking the Pacific Point Blue one before stamping the Kiwi Kiss one. Then hand draw a scribbly square around it - I used my Sakura Micron Pen - .25mm to be exact. Then, with my beloved Martha Stewart craft knife, I carefully cut around the butterflies, staying inside the square, until they were like a little window.

I tied some black and white gingham ribbon around the card and added a sentiment from Absolutely Fabulous. Then I mounted Basic Black cardstock inside to show off the relief.

I've heard tell from my friend Vicki, that for this type of work I should really bust out my glass cutting mat that I've never used (what kind of a psycho hoards a glass cutting mat??) because she says you can cut curves very smoothly.. I will try that on the dream card.

Now onto the childhood memory. It's driving me nuts. Please tell me what this looks like. Could be an artist like Miro or someone - I just can't put my finger on it.

BUT LETS TALK ABOUT HOW I WOULD PRY THIS SIZZLITS BIRD DIE OUT OF THE MOUTH OF THE MONTAUK MONSTER IF IT CAME DOWN TO IT!!!

I could throw away all my other dies and keep just this - this tiny, clean little bird with two tabbed, perforated wings ready to stick on him.. Oh, I love his teeny eye!!! I have named him Snowflake. Love him. *sigh* I sure feel a Christmas Card coming on.

But you didn't come here to hear me *sigh*. You wanna know how to make a snowflake?

Run the Sizzlits Birds & Blooms die through the big shot - Tab 1, cutting plate, die with blades up, white CS, cutting plate. Oooh and aaah over this perfect Snowflake and his fun wings. Hand cut some white branches and a trunk for your tree. Punch Tangerine Tango circles with the 1/4" punch and attach to Pacific Point card base with mini glue dots.

Use Love & Happiness Rub on for greeting. Answer the question - Is this okay to give to a Y chromosome? A friend has a birthday this week and I need to send him a card - is it manly enough?

Now, feel free to tell me what this color and style reminds you of. It's driving me completely nuts.

It's hard to believe it's Monday when I'm stamping. I think every day is Saturday when you're making cards. It's only Monday when my alarm goes off.

Hey - say hey when you come by.. Otherwise you're just imaginary friends :)

As for the second card - could it be Tomi DePaola? My fave book when I was REALLY little was "What Shall I Put in the Hole That I Dig?" I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name of your blog. Ruth

  9. I think it is "Icarus" by Henri Matisse, which was an illustration in a book called "Jazz". See what you think: http://www.abcgallery.com/M/matisse/matisse119.html
